it causes ketosis, which is a condition in which massive amounts of protein build up in your bloodstream along with fatty acids which are barely, IF AT ALL understood by the medical community. ketosis can also lead to an excessive release of cholesterol into the bloodstream because the body thinks it is out of potassium/sodium balance.
in my office i have had many clients have severe kidney complications when these proteins and acids have caused glomerulic bypass issues and blockages, and caused renal bleeding or excess protein outlet.
people with underlying autoimmune disorders (many many people in the population, even with family histories of things like asthma can have these underlying disorders which are dormant) can have serious issues with induced lupus like symptoms after being on atkins.
i mean, just in my essential opinion eating so many high alkaline inducing foods over such a prolonged period of time will only cause your metabolic processes in your liver to become over-extended. that of course is just my opinion. these are of course things that wouldn't show up on tests during an immediatel trial study of people on atkins for say, 6 months.. or a year. it would be something that, over time, would wear down the body and cause degenerative issues to show up over years of overconsumption of alkaline forming foods. i am chagrin to see what will happen to people years from now.
i think it's fine if people are on atkins. it's not my problem really, and i guess at least they're trying to lose weight. but i'll be fucked if i'd ever try it or recommend it to anyone. ever.
