Death is simply the best band ever.

if you switch the word "popular" with "gay" you're pretty much dead on....

at least in my experience...every dude I've know who was into theater has turned out to be a flaming homosexual..

still....

that don't make ya a bad person....

if i am slow then ur speed is 0, because:
i didnt say ANYWHERE that i prefer melody over complexicity i said that many can play complex stuff , but few can compose good stuff ... complex is not always good ..

"trapped: u think tha talent=technique .....
who is better , a guy who has more technical solos, or the one with better melodies in them ? ..."
Ok, I read into this as you being sarcastic and saying that melody is a lot better than technical solos. And usually, the thing a person says is better is usually the thing that they like better. But still, saying that there are a lot of people who can write complex stuff but few who can compose good stuff is an opinion, because some people prefer the really complex stuff and whose to say which is better. It's up to a person to decide what he prefers. Which would mean that you are still stating opinion. Some people think that N*Sync are great, that's their opinion, but it doesn't make the person right or wrong. But it's when they keep stating it like it is a fact that it becomes wrong.

The Nevermore vs. IE thread is like that too, and so are most of the song tourneys, but that makes sense. And I have AIM and Windows Messenger, but guess what, IOfTheStorm isn't on my list.

Alright, damnit, I've heard all of the Rush CDs (I own 10 of them, there are 15 I think, not counting live and compilation). First off, Neil Peart slays Nick Menza. Saying Menza is better really damages your credibility. Christy is better, but the rest of the list wasn't. Peart was an extremely innovative drummer, way ahead of his time, and he still has chops from hell even though he's like 50 (I saw them in concert a couple months back). You don't have to like or respect Rush, but give them some credit for being innovative. I respect the Beatles and recognize their influence, but I don't like their music.

Now on to all the Rush praise, you guys make me want to puke. For one, have you ever heard Yes? They were equally innovative and influential on modern prog. So, Rush were great, but they weren't the sole prog masters of the 70s (there were actually tons of prog bands back then, I just use Yes as an example).

This thread is like reading a bunch of ignorant teenagers arguing. I want to suck Rush's dick. Yeah, well I want to suck Death's dick. Blah blah blah. They're both talented and innovative bands, and despite anyone's personal opinion, both deserve respect (though they may not get it) and should be credited for their accomplishments.

And back up off Ecstatic Youth; he's a very cool guy. I, for one, don't appreciate you noobs getting on his case just because he likes some bands better than Rush. Hell, I like probably 50 bands better than Rush.

Sorry for the long post, but this thread just pissed me off. I'm gonna go listen to some Doctor Nerve, a band more interesting to me than Death or Rush, but one that most of you have probably not heard.

I just wanted to say that Yes  Hell yeah. ROUNNDDDAABOOUUTTTTTTT. And very well written jimbob. I agree with you on Neal Peart. He is an excelent drummer.

Oh, and I forgot about King Crimson. I've been mentioning them way to much lately.
N/P: Yes-Roundabout (groovy, love this song. AWESOME)

ha, great part of the movie 'Orgazmo':

-(taking a picture) Everybody say Geddy Lee!
-Who's geddy lee?
-BEST BASS PLAYER, EVER

rush is awesome, I give them the credit they deserve .. the 70s stuff is my favorite, 2112 ... caress of steel..., and then the first album too, sounds like zeppelin

As for Yes, well i just cant get into them. Roundabout kicks some serious ass, but thats pretty much the extent of what i listen.. I tried sitting through some albums, just couldnt keep listening.

and speaking of neal peart... hahaha i once had to convince some guy that peart was better than john bonham.. it was tough, stupid guy, he also thought the only drummer better than bonham was Lars

So one guy in my class said this: "There is only one drummer better than the drummer from Dave Matthew's Band, and that is Slipknot's drummer." IMO, he is wrong. But hey, to him, they may be the best drummers.

So... you admit that rush had no technique?

Cool. You just replied for me.

Exactly WHERE in my post did i say "Talent = Technique" ? Hmm?

So, going by YOUR logic, simply because jeff loomis or chuck schudiner are (were  ) awesome guitarists with a shitfull of technique, means that they CAN'T write a good solo or a memorable riff?

What the hell are you doing on the Nevermore board eh? More importantly, what are you doing at ultimatemetal??

You would say that death's "Flesh and the power it holds" isn't memorable, or that the end of "Perrenial Quest" doesn't make your heart break? eh? how about you find out something about what were talking about before you post, that way i won't rip you to shreds anymore, capiche?

it is a damn fact that few can compose great riffs and many can play difficult stuff ... without inspiration for composing that great riffs ,

Refer to the above ass-ripping first...

Now. Technical riffage. You don't reckon 42147 is a good song? Just because in the middle of the song he kicks into 5/4? And you don't beleive LOST is a good song because it goes into an instrumental prog section at the end?

You're a dick! A dick with an opinion! Nothing more!

Neil Peart slays Nick Menza. Saying Menza is better really damages your credibility

ha ha, i've been waiting SOOOO long for the day that you argued with something i said

Nick menza is an awesome drummer. Rust in peace anyone? That's some amazing drumming. Five magics anyone? When they kick into the 5/8 bit, the drumming is weirdass...!

It's an opinion either way dude... but hey, apparantely i don't have credibility anymore... so what do i matter?

And back up off Ecstatic Youth; he's a very cool guy. I, for one, don't appreciate you noobs getting on his case just because he likes some bands better than Rush. Hell, I like probably 50 bands better than Rush.

Damn straight.

Less of bashing Ecstatic, more of bashing RUSH :heh:

I would surely like to here some Deicide now (I just read through the entire thread), instead of Queen.
it is so cute when you realize that some people are standing up for their right to party, while other's toes are peaking out of some other people's assholes.
communion is evolution....

:D

are u blind or something?
do u have eyes?
can u read?
i never said that guitarists who are with that shitfull of technique cant write a good solo.
u have a vivid imagination of explaining what i post by ur own logic.
one of my fav bands ever is watchtower...so i dont like technique, right ?

You don't reckon 42147 is a good song? Just because in the middle of the song he kicks into 5/4?
so ur vivid imagination strikes again , saying things that i didnt say..
my fav part from the whole POE album is the middle of the title track where the whole band technique is outstanding ...
next time try not to trust ur just ur imagination for ur conclusions..and judge by what i say only..
i said that MANY technical guitarists cant write a memorable riff ..
i didnt say that noone can write a memorable riff ..
get glasses ..

Yeah, Mirror Black is a good album...not up to Nevermore's level, but good. "Future Tense" is a fucking great song.

Memo to Azal: Actually, you'd be surprised...I wouldn't say more than a quarter of the Theatre department is openly gay/lesbian/bi, and I don't think anybody here would have any qualms about coming out. But even the straight guys are drama queens and make a big deal out of everything...meanwhile, we in Creative Writing sit around and act angsty, coming out of our shells occasionally to laugh about hideously unfunny things like elder abuse. We're sick bastards (and we have the hottest girls in the school.)
