Actually depends a lot on what you put after it in my experience.

I'm partial to the metal zone straight into my interface. No impulse. Just raw br00tality.

boss hm-2 is great for that entombed/dismember etc... sound
but they don't sound very consistend, you can try a bunch and all sound different
