Death Vocal Equiptment Help

My name is Sully and I have been a vocalist for over 9 years. Shame on me for not seeking more help as I have never owned any vocal tools other than my own microphones.

I am currently using a SM57 and have previously used a SM87A, both with mixed results. I use over 20 different techniques and voices that go into many different frequency ranges. I am having a problem capturing all of them in one microphone at the same volumes (high pteradactyl range was not captured as high as it was projected). I am sure that the volume I am projecting varies from voice to voice and that this may be my biggest problem (even though I feel that they are very close in volume).

I would love to get educated feedback, as to what microphone and other equipment would be needed to help me with getting a more powerful, consistent live sound. I would like to have 2 of the others in our band help with backups... Please keep this in mind, when making suggestions that may only work for one live vocalist.

Since the volume you're projecting varies, you need to vary the distance from mouth to mic with the technique. Find a distance for each technique that results in a consistent volume.

Thank you to We are in Flames, Skeleton Witch and Captain Obvious. I use this technique, but get varied results from mic to mic. Some of my highest range seems to hit all 3 mics I've used at a great volume, but will not go through to the PA's at our practice spot and venues. It seems that my microphone thinks that range is feedback and shuts it down. I'm studying up on what microphone would be best for me. I've talked with several recording guru's and can't seem to get the ball rolling, as most of them are telling me that they haven't heard some of the stuff I'm trying to do vocally before (even though I'm speaking to people with experience in recording metal vocals). 2 of the guys form sure have suggested a $700 KSM 9. I'm not above spending the money, but would like to try one locally first and am leary of buying the highest dollar stuff a salesman has to offer.

Anyone have anything good to say about a Sure KSM 9? Or bad works as well.

or any suggestions, concerning rack mount gear like a preamp or vocal equalizer? I might as well be starting from scratch, so any suggestions at all... Even if it is from Captain Obvious
