Decade of Aggression

Always kinda preferred Live Undead to DOA...
DOA has an awful drum sound and that's what I hate the most about it.
The song selection is great (given that "Seasons..." just came out then, it's not a surprise to see 8/10 of it featured), but I lack the energy which I feel on Live Undead.

DOA perfectly captures the feel and power of Slayer live, circa 1991.

I saw them twice on that tour - and dics 1 is the exact setlist. It was the most intense show(s) I've ever seen.

I agree with you there, disc one was the set from the Clash gig I saw...
They are intense, the whole fucking arena shook! I have NEVER seen another band do that... It was like falling into the pits of hell!

I've always heard it was "Join Us" backwards. It does kind of sound like sign your heart though.

I'm not a big live album person, but I like this one and I still listen to it on occasion. Nothing can compare to seeing them live and in person. :worship: They have been the one of the most consistant bands I have seen over the years. I have probably seen them a dozen times or so, and I will go see them again when they come here next time.

both are great live albums. I had also seen them on the clash of the titans tour in nyc. they were in top form.I heard that the live undead l.p.was recorded live in the studio with just a few people there.it kicks ass though just the same!

I don't like Slayer (where is Abryl?), but the live version of 'War Ensemble' kicks serious butt.

I always thought slayer began to fall apart starting in the 90's, but this album is puoring with the raw energy that a true thrash band should have. I do prefer live undead, but this one is top quality as well. One of the reasons I also have a slayer patch on my vest.

I agree with you 100 percent. I was a Slayer fan from the get go, having found Show No Mercy deep in some vinyl section somewhere back in the day. I was sold on it as soon as I heard it. They were my favorite band up through Hell Awaits, but to be honest when Reign In Blood came out I fell off. Classic as everyone says that album is, I prefered the days when they still eq'd Tom's voice and the guitars had more bass. They were more like a buzz-saw in the later days, less metal (somehow) to me. I'm still a fan of the old Slayer, but I'm probably the only one that sees their major label output as something akin to the Metallica fall from grace of years late. Those early metal blade days, and Megaforce days, and Music for Nations days, etc. (not just Slayer) were spot on, I thought. Anyway, once upon a time I had the picture disc of Live Undead.

The "sign your heart," (as you put it) is actually "Weeelcome Baaaack!" The rest is Join Us, as others here stated. Or maybe that's not the part you're talking about. But the "welcome back" is the big demonic voice right before the song starts. Directly before.

DOA is my preference over Live Undead, because the latter was not a real live album. Knowing how damn brilliant a live Slayer show is, I have to take the real show over the live studio recording!

Yeah, I know that, but I still get a greater kick out of LU than DOA...

One of the few bands to have not just remained great, but actually improved, after two decades in the game.

I'd totally disagree with that statement...
Slayer let me down with Divine Intervention, I'd say that only half of that album is worth listening, but the real disappointment came with Diabolus in Crap, not to mention later works... :yuk:
SNM until SITA for me only.

DOA is a great live album with a fucking awesome setlist and great performances but what lets it down for me is the sound - Kerry's guitar sounds louder than Jeffs, you can barely hear the drums on some tracks and the mix is really low. If a track from DOA ever comes on my ipod i have to crank the volume up to hear it properly.

Other than those minor quibbles it is awesome - the intro to Hell Awaits is hair raising.
