If you have any taste whatsoever you will get this album. Sounds like Death - SoP and Symbolic, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Quo Vadis, and other kings of dm all mixed for a sploogetastical blending of sounds.

Seriously, already the AOTY 2008. There is no way anything can top this, sorry guys.

It's really good, but it basically sounds like Odious Mortem with more lead/solos. This is mainly because 3 of the OM guys are in the band now, which is kind of stupid. But anyway, it's great shit, yes. The new Abominable Putridity is my favorite album of the year so far, but this is close behind!

I swear I'm fucking buying like twelve copies. The shredding and melodic solos sound the closest I've heard to SoP from any band other than Death

I really don't like TSoP at all and I'm not seeing much of a connection either...have you even heard Odious Mortem - Cryptic Implosion?

Yeah you definitely should. As I said, the reason why DB sound how they do now is because the drummer, guitarist, and bassist (aka the things that matter/people who write the music) are IN the band, and they're also in Odious Mortem. The similarity is astounding; you'll love it.

Thanks man, I definitely will, it's a bit late and I have to get up early in the morning but I will check it out tomorrow.

I completely forgot about the members of OM being in Decrepit Birth on first listen, but I still thought it sounded a hell of a lot like "Cryptic Implosions" (which I thought was great).

That aside, this album is definitely great. I didn't like "...And Time Begins" at all, but this album is completely different. Though the solos get a tad redundant, they usually flow perfectly with the music. The songwriting, flow, and overall experience of this album is great. This is most likely going to be one of my favorites of '08.

No, this is incorrect. The entire album - all of the music (including drums and bass), and most of the lyrics - is written by Matt Toledo, who isn't a member of Odious Mortem. The entire album was recorded before Dan Eggers and Joel Horner joined. The only Odious member who was involved in the recording of "Diminishing Between Worlds" is drummer KC Howard, and he wasn't involved in the writing process.

(Check out the Death Metal Discussion board(formerly known as the Decrepit Birth foum) on SMNNews if you don't believe it - there are numerous threads about this album, and Matt himself posts there as "shroudofimpurit").

I was pleasantly surprised after hearing this. Not that I really had anything against DB to begin with, but I haven't really been checking out much newer death metal lately. I can definitely hear a Death influence in some of the guitar work, not so much in the structure or drumming. A lot of the technical side of Odious Mortem is certainly present, but this doesn't come off sounding quite as...chaotic maybe? I'll probably pick it up at some point.

Well then, that really surprises the fuck out of me because it basically sounds like the third Odious album.

This album has been in the works for ages, and several songs have been more or less finished for quite some time. The album was supposed to be released last year, but due to the unfortunate incident with their guitarist, it was delayed for some time. It's more than likely that Odious Mortem's latest offering is influenced by Decrepit Birth's new direction. I know for a fact that it isn't the other way round. The Odious guitarist and bassist joined when the album was finished - in November or December, I think.

this is true, wish more people would know this.

How would it influence them if it wasn't even out? Do you suspect that the OM guys heard the advances of the tracks? I always found it sort of odd how OM went from being a kind of obscure-sounding, raw, and technical deathgrind band to a full-on tech-DM thing with lots of melody, so maybe that is really the key to the change?
