3.Opeth - Watershed
4.Daylight Dies - Lost to the Living
5.Sun Kil Moon - April
6.Agalloch - The White

8.October Falls - The Womb of Primordial Nature
9.Portishead - Third
10.Sigur Ros - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust

Comments: This was hard, the order could be switched around quite a lot. But it is somewhat close to right I think.

2 albums didn't get into the list but almost:

Comments:

Best EP, DEMO or MCD of the year: Unblessing the Purity

Comments:
It pwns

Major disappointment of the year: Ummm.. no Katatonia record

Comments: poop

My top 10 list with the best Of 2008:

1. IN MOURNING - Shrouded Divine
2. BLOODBATH - The Fathomless Mastery
3. DAYLIGHT DIES - Lost to the Living
4. COLDPLAY - Viva la Vida or Death and all his Friends
5. TEXTURES - Silhouettes
6. ELITE - We Own the Mountains
7. STEVEN WILSON - Insurgentes
8. OPETH - Watershed
9. SATYRICON - The Age of Nero
10. ...

Comments: Incredible debut of In Mourning, by far my most played album of 2008. Crushing album of Bloodbath, everytime I hear it I am more puzzled about how relatively so many fans here are disappointed with it, the album's all I could ask for and then so much more. Total elite Death Metal from the first till the last second. Made some great discoveries in 2008, In Mourning obviously, but also Gotye, if "Like Drawing Blood" hadn't (originally) been from 2006, it would have been top 3 for sure. Coldplay was also a very positive surprise. 2008 was a great music year for me, hadn't heard that many great albums in one year, in many years.

2 albums didn't get into the list but almost: LIFELOVER - Konkurs, ...

Comments: I really got into Lifelover some months ago, played 'Erotik' a lot, but the fascination has somewhat faded since.

Best EP, DEMO or MCD of the year: BLOODBATH - Unblessing The Purity.

Comments: :kickass:

Major disappointment of the year: METALLICA - Death Magnetic

Comments: After the announcement of their cooperation with Rick Rubin for this record, I had good hopes that they would come up with a great, pure sounding album of high musical quality again, but this awful sounding collection of demos is far from that.

My top 10 list with the best Of 2008:

1. In Mourning - "Shrouded Divine"
2. Opeth - "Watershed"
3. Ihsahn - "angL"
5. Bloodbath - "The Fathomless Mastery"
7. Enslaved - "Vertebrae"
Good choices.
I'll add a few...

Nachtmystium - Asssasins
Isole - Bliss of Solitude
Iskald - Revelations of Reckoning Day:worship:

My top 10 list with the best Of 2008:

1. Acid Witch ~ Witchtanic Hellucinations
2. Dismember ~ Dismember
3. Bloodbath ~ The Fathomless Mastery

6. One Man Army and the Undead Quartet ~ Grim Tales
7. Amon Amarth ~ Twilight of the Thunder God
8. Whitechapel ~ This is Exile
9. Coffins ~ Buried Death
10. Scar Symmetry ~ Holographic Universe

Comments: Acid Witch absolutely blew me away the first time I heard it and is still crushing my ears. I havent stopped listening to Dismember's new cd since the day it came out... Six Feet Under's new full length cut out all the bullshit of past...

2 albums didn't get into the list but almost:

Metallica ~ Death Magnetic
Gojira ~ The Way of All Flesh

Comments: I was honestly expecting something horrible like St Anger. I was wrong and I was pleased. Gojira was solid but not quite as good as FMTS.

Major disappointment of the year:
Iced Earth

Comments: I was so excited when I heard Iced Earth was doing a new full length and he was returning... Guys... I'm not gay but I'm pretty sure I'd kiss him if he asked.... and I waited and waited for that cd... frothing at the mouth with anticipation... I get the cd and listen to it... and I just feel horrible... how could this be? This cant be right... I listen to it again and again to find the good parts I knew I was somehow missing... but they never came. I have never been so disappointed by music in my life.

My top 10 list with the best Of 2008:

1. Genghis Tron - Board Up the House

5. Ihsahn - angL
6. Wovenhand - Ten Stones
7. Krallice - s/t
8. Blacklisted - Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God
9. Intronaut - Prehistoricisms
10. Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid

Comments: An interesting year for music - while not a lot was released that I really love, there were some truly awesome records.

2 albums didn't get into the list but almost:

Hate Eternal - Fury and Flames
Sigur Rós - Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust

Comments: n/a

Best EP, DEMO or MCD of the year: Bloodbath - Unblessing the Purity

Comments: Possibly the best death metal EP ever.

Major disappointment of the year: Deicide - Till Death Do Us Part / Cryptopsy - The Unspoken King & "Oh My Fucking God" cover

Comments: What Dusty said / It just sucks trying to listen to the music with Matt McGachy as their vocalist...he just sounds awful.

My top 10 list with the best Of 2008:

1. Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
2. Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery
3. Dark Fortress - Eidolon
4. Opeth - Watershed
5. Virgin Black - Fortissimo
6. Daylight Dies - Lost to the Living
7. Psycroptic - (Ob)Servant
8. Venom - Hell
9. Draconian - Turning Season Within
10. Poisonblack - A Dead Heavy Day

Comments:
Haven't gotten sick of any of these albums yet... some really great stuff from this year.

2 albums didn't get into the list but almost:

Heaven Shall Burn - Iconoclast
Facebreaker - Dead Rotten And Hungry

Comments:
Great albums, but both have some repetitive songs and it just starts to get boring.

Best EP, DEMO or MCD of the year:

Obituary - Left to Die

Comments:
Obituary are back baby!!! :kickass:

Major disappointment of the year:

Catamenia - The Time Unchained

Comments:
What the fuck? The vocalist leaves, and it all goes to shit =\

My top 10 list with the best Of 2008:

1. Infinitum - Behold Eradication
2. Arghoslent - Hornets of The Pogrom
3. Ashes Divide - Keep Telling Myself It's Alright
4. Hour of Penance - The Vile Conception
5. Warrel Dane - Praises To The War Machine
6. Dismember - Dismember
7. Mourning Beloveth - A Disease For The Ages
8. Hail of Bullets - ...of Frost And War
9. Daylight Dies - Lost To The Living
10. Facebreaker - Dead, Rotten & Hungry

Comments:

Infinitum's album is the winner by, one of the best Death Metal albums I've heard. Albums 2-5 has been frequented pretty much and are 8-9/10's for me. The rest are good but not something I listen to 24/7.

2 albums didn't get into the list but almost:

None.

Comments:

Not enough good albums really.

Best EP, DEMO or MCD of the year:

Bloodbath - Unblessing The Purity

Comments:

No need for comments. The EP just owned :)

Major disappointment(s) of the year:

Communic, Bloodbath, Opeth, Draconian, Steven Wilson and Testament.

Comments:

I had big hopes for Bloodbath, Communic and Steven Wilson and they all turned out to be mediocre compared to my expectations. The Draconian album sucked due to the vocals and gothiness and the Testament one was just a pile of massive production with no good music to accompany it.

opeth was no disappointment at all imo. they do have a few boring tracks on it but the good ones (lotus eater, coil, and Killing Midgets in the Dark) make up for it. Testament is pure shit, and Bloodbath released their weakest record but no dissapointment.

My Favorites Of 2008, in no order:

Pyramaze - Immortal
Iced Earth - The Crucible of Man
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Evergrey - Torn
Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God
Testament - The Formation of Damnation
Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
Draconian - Turning Season Within
Disturbed - Indestructible

Comments:

Best EP, DEMO or MCD of the year: Bloodbath - Unblessing the Purity.

Comments: It's the only EP I've heard all year, and is just killer. I thought the Breeding Death EP was the best 13 minutes of death metal ever recorded, and this eclipses that EP by a ton.

Major disappointment of the year: Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery

Comments: After the Unblessing EP, I was expecting more of that style. I loved the sound - the vocals up front. The Fathomless Mastery is still a good record, but just not as awesome as the last EP.

Opeth and SW were in a way disappointing to me as well, as in they're not great, but 'merely' good i.m.o. But then, I've only known the SW album for a few weeks, so my opinion might change still.

Pretty much how I feel. Both albums have good moments, but I simply expected more. Shouldn't have touched the samples for the SW album, as the two moments in those are the best moments on the disc :(
