So, 2008's end is closer and it's time for our final verdicts, the best and the worst of 2008 (only methul allowed)

The questions are:

My top 10 list with the best Of 2008:

1.Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery
2.Darkane - Demonic Art
3.Coldworker - Rotting Paradise
4.Facebreaker - Dead, Rotten And Hungry
5.Hail Of Bullets - ...Of Frost And War
6.Unleashed - Hammer Battalion
7.Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
8.Dismember - Dismember
9.The Monolith Deathcult - Trivmvirate
10.Toxocara - The Great Rebellious

Comments: The Fathomless Mastery is the best album of the year, no doubt about it. Hail Of Bullets came as a great surprise and Van Drunen vocals sounds great. Toxocara was the revelation band (without being new at all) of the year for me.


2 albums didn't get into the list but almost: Opeth - Watershed, Rotten Sound - Cycles.

Comments: Watershed is one helluva good album but, in the end, I always end up listening to random songs of it instead of the whole album, Cycles is also good and the guitar tone rocks, Coldworker's rotting paradise gave me all the grind I was begging for this year plus a few more things, though.


Best EP, DEMO or MCD of the year: Bloodbath - Unblessing The Purity.

Comments: I must say that this wasn't an obvious choice, the last Torture Division's DEMO kills and Jörgen Sandström's vocals sounds as good as mike's...


Major disappointment of the year: Decrepit Birth - Diminishing Between Worlds.

Comments: I was expecting something really good after "...And Time Begins" but, the final product wasn't what I thought it would be... KC's drumming is flawless as always, too bad the guitar tone, the too sterile production and the boring solos ended up ruining this album for me.

Comments: Bloodbath just about managed to stay clear of this, i seem to have developed a liking to 3 tracks on the new CD now...

Cradle of Filth - Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder: It deserves credit, because I haven't liked this band since Midian. And I thought this was finally them getting back to the kind of metal they should be making.

Judas Priest - Nostradamus: I really liked the album and I still listen to it...but it was a bit TOO grandiose for it's own good and had way too many slow songs. Okay, they've done the concept album now. Can I please have just one more kickass Priest record before they retire?

Major disappointments of the year:

1) Children of Bodom - Blooddrunk: I dunno why I even thought the album would be good, but I still can't shake how much I enjoyed their first couple albums so I still kid myself into thinking this is a good band. The album is trash through and through, and personally I think they deserve more hate than "N'Flaymz". At least In Flames kinda sorta still makes music if you in the right mood for it...this was shit. Seriously, it sounded like they were parodying their own material. Most of the songs sounded like non-catchy, non-good Hatecrew Deathroll rejects.

2) Iced Earth - Crucible of Man: For the return of Matt Barlow, I expected more. I've tried, and I just can't get into this "story" that Shaeffer is trying to tell the audience. I still like some songs, but it's missing the heavy punch of previous Barlow albums.

3) Deicide - Till Death Do Us Part: It's not bad and still has the great Santolla leads, but it was just such a drastically shittier album than Stench of Redemption, I can't not list it here.

Epic fail from stench of redemption. They said they wanted to lose the groove and melody (boring ass death metal) from SOR and they certainly did that.

gojira's new album is good but it came out too late. Darkane's new album is awesome, I know it's difficult to get used to the new vocalist but, the music is excellent and peter's "controlled chaos" drumming is too good to be ignored

Comments: Satyricon pulverizes everything nowadays. Both of their last albums are of an equally high standard as Nemesis Divina, followed closely by the two first LP's. The Fathomless Mastery is a nice record, but a slight disappointment after the 10/10 EP release earlier this year. Nice to hear Meshuggah return to old good form as well.

Comments: The new SS was nice but not at all as good as Pitch Black Progress, and Metallica was a positive surprise after the LOAD OF SHIT which was named St. Anger.

Major disappointment of the year: That I missed Behemoth at Tuska Open Air due to a late morning. The Polish kings deserve a better(=later) gig time!
