Hey guys,
I suck at balancing/separating/masking/raping/molesting higher mids. It's really getting me demotivated as I don't know where to start or what to work on. I'd be changing my monitors soon (currently BX8A's). Due to budget issues I can go for a Yahama HS80 (please suggest if there's anything better for the price).

I got plenty of broadband traps. No flutter echoes whatsoever. Superchunk basstraps at every goddamn corner of the room.

Should I leave it up to time and experience?

Also, I've read somewhere that stress and low-magnesium can cause ear fatigue. If there's anything else you'd like to share please do.

Have you tried focusing on the upped midrange on a pair of suitable headphones?

I have a pair of the old AKG K240DF's, which I personally hate, but they're really good for checking out the mids/upper mids/highs. I often use them just in case to listen for unwanted clicks or noises for that exact reason.

I've got an Audio Technica ATH-M40 but the 'foam' on the left channel was damaged by a client (can't recall who). It's 50% unusable, haha!

Headphones are quite useful here. Pain comes instantly if there's some peaking hi-mid freq :loco:

Good point dude unless I'm dealing with clean tracks like acoustic guitars, clean vocals and such. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

eq sweep FTW, you almost don't need your ears for that range, when there's ringing up there and you use a narrow Q and like... +12 db, the levels instantly go up a LOT. That's what i do, and in the headphones of course, my room is not treated (i know it sucks) and those freqs kind'a dissapear in my setup, so i just have to do the headphone thing. I usually find something like 2 or 3 freq's i pull down and not only you get a clearer high end, it gets instantly smoother :)

Oh btw, that, and KILL 4K on everything. Haha i dunno you guys, but i HATE 4k, on EVERYTHING. My 2 cents!
