Destroyer 666

So listening to "Phoenix Rising" once again...

It's ok. First three tracks all sound uncomfortably similar, and that's why I think I skipped through the rest when I first got this because it sounded like the same ol' same ol...

But then if you skip to track 4, the album finally picks up and "I am the Wargod" and "Eternal Glory of War". They sound like something from Amon Amarth's "Sorrow Throughout..." EP. For an Australian band, they have a very Northern European sound to them.

"Lone Wolf Winter" has a cool mid-song tempo breakdown which is exceptionally cool, and the last track is pretty good.

For the most part, you're not getting anything revolutionary here, but interestingly, there are moments that remind me of Melechesh, and I can't stress enough how good Melechesh is. If you like this, you should at least check out "Sphynx". Highest recommendation.

These are some albums I'm thinking about buying:

Destroyer 666-Phoenix Rising
Taake-Nattestid...
Antaeus-Cut Your Flesh and Worship Satan
Aeternus-Shadows of Old

Should I add Morrigan's "Enter the Sea of Flames" to the mix? Opinions on the other albums?

I'm really in more of a death/thrash brutal mood right now, but I really think I'll like that Taake. I'll probably buy them all at some point, so it's a matter of deciding what goes first.

Also, I'm thinking about Blodsrit and Mordaehoth, but I don't know much about them, though I think J. made a thread on the latter.

I haven't heard the first three, but I'd pretty much avoid Shadows of Old. It pales in comparison to Beyond the Wandering Moon, And So the Night Became and Dark Sorcery, and also is the least interesting when it comes to Aeternus' brutal death metal albums. Both Dark Monument and Ascension of Terror are better than SoO.

You'd do better in getting Morrigan's Enter the Sea of Flames or Celts.

The Mordaehoth album is great if you like mid paced heathen type stuff.

Re-reading my previous post makes it sound like Aeternus is not worth checking out. This is wrong.

Dark Sorcery, And So the Night Became, and Beyond the Wandering Moon are all amazing, amazing albums. So get these three before even thinking of getting any more Aeternus.

Enter the Sea of Flames and Celts from Morrigan are amazing as well. I didn't like Plague, Waste, Death near as much.

Meh, I bought it the second it came out. Some parts of Trialed by fire sounds so much like parts of Dissection - Thorns of crimson death that it must be a tribute or ripoff (in a good way). Did you just hear this for the first time or what?

I could point out the exact parts if I were at home, but I think it's the part about 1.14 or 1.18 into Trialed by fire that sound like a part in the beginning of Thorns.

FUCKING

DESTROYS

By the power vested in me by heavy fucking metal, I COMMAND you all to buy the "Terror Abraxas" EP now or face the fucking BLADE. Seriously, I mean IGNORE the band name if you want to, this is just about as awesome as PURE FUCKING METAL gets at the moment. If you like Bathory, Morrigan, black metal, death metal, thrash metal or heavy fucking metal with balls, you need this release (or, I suppose, any other Deströyer release, but I can't vouch for that yet)

I agree.

Tranquillian: If you don't want "Terror Abraxas", I'd be glad to take it off your hands.

Deströyer 666 - Trialed by fire 1.23 - 1.36 is somewhat similar to Dissection - Thorn of crimson death 0.28 - 1.09

just found out one of the cds i ordered from Moribund is out of stock and i'm thinking i need some more blackened thrashened death. I'm thinking of Unchain the Wolves.

Based on my preferences, will I like this stuff? Or should I just get my credit slip and wait for the new Graveland?
