Where do I begin?
The band I was most interested to see was Evergrey, followed closely by Iced Earth (I'm still fairly new to them).
First off, as we are walking from our car, we pass the tour buses and there is Tom Englund between the buses kicking around a soccer ball with a few other guys. So we just shout something along the lines of "YOU RULE, TOM!" and he gives us a fist in the air back.
Once inside the door, I immediately go and buy my limited edition of The Inner Circle ($20), which later served as a visual aid for Tom when he was on stage. I was right up against the stage the entire night. When Tom said they were going to play something off the new CD that comes out Tuesday, or we could buy it there, I held it up and he pointed mine out to everyone as an example.
Masterplan sounded SO GOOD live!
Once they did their 7 songs (so few ), I then had to wait through Children of Bordom (sorry, they do nothing for me).
Finally Iced Earth came out a little before 11:00. It was cool seeing Ripper doing something other than Priest stuff. During the "Wicked" trilogy, I looked over my left shoulder and WHOAH, there's Tom Englund standing right there! I would have told him how great their set was, but it was too loud in there. So I just let him be. A few people took pictures with him.
Well, other than the fact that I got a pick from Jon Shaffer, that's about it as far as the excitment for the night went.
