Seeing as nearly everyone here seems to have heard his stuff except me, whats his best cd?
Ive heard he gets a bit experimental on some of his stuff, so the best straighforward heavy riff kinda albums would be the best starting point for me, so what would they be?

Well, what kind of mood are you in?

Hahah! Umm a Slayerish/Slipknottish/Testamentish mood at the moment :D

easy answer then.

Strapping Young Lad: City.
with all due respect to those bands you mention (some are friends),
while listening to city you will learn a new definition of "aggro".
and if aggresive is what you want, it don't get better than that.

side note: that album is invaluable for those bad mood days
when you want something loud to pplay at a stoplight.

Oh I like the sound of that album........... :headbang:

Ill pick it up tomorrow when im getting some cds then!

IMHO is Terria his best work. I think Stagnant is the best Devin Townsend song ever, and so Terria as an album, but I haven't got in the depth of the rest of the albums as in Terria....

I think I like Ocean Machine the best - There's no other song like Funeral in Devin's set... eventhough Terria and Infinity come close.. I don't like Phycisist that much but enjoy watching the enhanced CD as it's done by a friend of mine :)

Oh for gods sake you lot, I cant get them ALL :D

I might grab one other one as well when im there depending on how many other cds I end up getting!

well the cds deserve better descriptions than this
but heres whats best for each mood in a nutshell.
i need to note that each one is in itself a true masterpiece
and each is different and shouldnt be compared to eachother.

aggro: SYL
emotional: Ocean Machine (all, really)
elegant chaos: Infinity
intospective: Terria

I guess Mark has tried to contact Devin a few times about a forum with no response, hopefully someday we will have one. Analog_Kid had a great idea when bringing up a Devin forum! I don't know how much better UM forums can get but with Devin forum I would be a very happy person :)

Okay, since I seem to have gotten the ball rolling on this, I have made my attempt at a follow-through. I just emailed Tracy at Devin's site about putting up a forum here. Hope it works!

I was looking at the HevyDevy site and there is a forum already up there, but it's an EzBoard, which are pretty naff compared to this place.

A Devin Townsend forum! Yes please!
Spawn, have you located SYL - City?...just curious to hear...heh :D
