We should be seeing a date for the Diablo 3 Beta in the very near future and the actual game will follow in the not-so-distant future, i.e. sooner than Soon™ ;)

Excited?

Darn near poopin myself at this point.

We have Torchlight 2, Path of Exile and Dead Island coming in the near future to take the edge off in case the final release gets delayed though. It's set to be a grindfest of a year though.

Saw that earlier. Told a friend of mine who I intend to grind the game to death with.

His response was 'I hoped it gets hacked. I'll pay money for the hacked version.'

Several design decisions have made me pretty disappointed with Blizzard on this title TBH. If you can just pay your way, then what is the point of playing the game in the first place. I know this was going on during the D2 days as well, but those people took a big risk, and had to do it externally via unsanctioned methods, whereas this is Blizzard essentially going 'yeah if you're a rich kid and just want an uber twinked starting character, here's our bank account, go sick'.

Yup, it was around the time, in D2, when you could just buy anything when I quit playing. A friend of mine basically bought (at a site where your stuff wouldn't disappear, still have the items till this day) me everything you could ever want and I found myself with nothing to do. Killed the game for me.

I don't understand why that would be a turn off though.....?
It's not like it will affect your interaction with the game unless you want it to?

@ratsapprentice

Well after I played the game (story line) several times with each character, finding and acquiring the good shit became my goal. That meant going on runs in several locations to get good drops and keeping or trading items for what you want. When my online friend (didn't even know him IRL) bought everything for me, that was gone. I became uberman and all that was left was gathering keys/body parts to fight that insane Diablo to get yet another stupid torch. Well killing him also became a one man job, he became easy too.

I guess you/I could practice some discipline and not take a free 75$ item but that's really hard to do. At least for me it is. That's basically free real world money. Can you say paypal? yeah . . .

Always Online? Micropayments? Haha fuck off Blizzard. I liked your games back in the day.

Deus Ex 3 is coming, that's hopefully gonna be much more than this clickfest bore they're already ruining.

Agreed, I'm really disappointed. WoW used to be awesome, now it sucks. I've never been a Starcraft fan, but the mod-friendliness of SC2 sucks. Now I was already dubious about Diablo 3 - the music has changed from Matt Uelmen's incredibly atmospheric and ambient style to overly epic (none of Blizzard's music post-vanilla-WoW has any emotion), the graphics are cartoony.
Now always-online DRM (dunno about you but my internet connection is fickle as hell), real-money and, no-one else has mentioned this in the thread, absolutely no modding capabilities whatsoever, and modding is prohibited (Diablo 2 was hardly modding friendly but you could still do it and it produced some interesting things).

But fuck I'm probably still going to buy it.

Game is going to be a huge letdown.

Of course it's going to have a fuck ton of sales on release since pretty much EVERYONE played Diablo 2 and want to try the third, but I'm willing to bet anything that it's going to be an enormous flop.

Still don't understand the hate towards the real cash thing, It's not an integral part of the game from what I can see, and it would still exist regardless of it's official integration.

Ergo, don't like it > don't use it.
