DSO's SASFTDAD (lol ftw).

All I can say about this album is that my 87 year old grandmother LOVES it.

Album of the year for me, hands down, no question. I absolutely love it more than their previous release. It's so wonderfully enjoyable to me. It's so unlike anything else I've ever heard, and gives off a generally happy vibe with everything.

Their live performance was good, but not mind blowing to me, which was sad because I was REALLY looking forward to them, but it just didn't click for some reason. I hope I get to see them again, because I think the next time I do, I'm going to LOVE their show.

However, this CD. Is. AMAZING.

Nailz -
great post :)

i am SO there with you...

there are a number of songs that already have me...singing along :)

i am bummed that they didn't do anything for you during their live set (were you too distracted by the dancers down in the pit?? ;):Saint::Saint::Saint:)...but i am so stoked that you are digging the album :)

The Su...uber-fan of the awesomeness that is DSO

Now that I've seen the band live, I truly GET them, or at least get them enough to personally appreciate them. I've been showing them to all my friends who claim to be into "weird shit." So far, so successful.

I think the new cd is the next logical step from their debut. I love both cds a lot, and I am forever grateful that I got a chance to see them play live.
This band ticks my "weird bone" perfectly...Much the same way FZ & FK do...

I actually like the first album better, but so far DSO is 2 for 2 with me. The new album is pretty damn good. :)

I feel the same way. I've been listening to their new album pretty much every day since the festival, but going back to listen to "The Butcher's Ballroom" made me realize that I kind of miss that sound. It was a bit more mellow, less vocally intense, and just felt a bit... darker, if that's even the right word.

Luckily, just because a new album is released, it doesn't mean the old one is destroyed... so I'm happily enjoying both albums in their own way. :kickass:

I also think the first album was way better. I think it had more diversity and more memorable moments. I think somewhere in the middle of the new one, it sort of loses steam and then comes back again at the end. Just my take on it.

I'm really surprised that you didn't think that performance was great. To be honest, it's probably one of my top 5 live performances EVER!!!! And I've been to a boatload of shows, and to be honest, I think they're live performance is WAY better than their studio stuff. I don't think they're studio stuff conveys the energy and talent that they show through their live show. My opinion at least.

This is easily one of my favorite albums of the year, and I think I'd be saying that even if they didn't give me one of the most fun performances I have ever seen in my life a few weeks back.

Second albums are scary. You always have to wonder if some new band just got lucky and can't make more good stuff, but this slams the door shut on that for DSO.

My god this album just reaches out and grabs you, it is a fun album, by a fun, and very awesome band. 2 Thumbs up

...and this is exactly why I said this band, with the proper backing, could really make headway in the states. Probably more like a flavor of the month, but a good way for them to make some quick $$$.

Dave:

Proper promotion and touring are two different animals. We just got a very positive review for DSO in the new issue of Decibel and my understanding is the upcoming review in Outburn will be a rave as well. Lots of website reviews popping up now as well to coincide with yesterday's street date.

With respect to DSO, touring here is a bit of an issue because of Annlouice's work commitment. She is under contract with an opera company so her ability to "hit the road" is pretty limited. In fact the band was offered a slot at another prominent festival over here but couldn't give the green light so far in advance. I'm sure you will be seeing DSO over here again at some point.

Ken Golden
