I've been looking for a device that would output 8 tracks from a HDD or flash memory through ADAT. Sounds simple, but it seems no one has a device like that?
Fostex did have a thing a bit like that (VF-160), but they have discontinued it a long time ago with no replacement product (!), and you can't find a used one anywhere in Europe.
Basically all I need is a handy-sized device for playing 7 channels of backing tracks in a live setting, and is more reliable (and cheaper to replace
) than a laptop+interface+ADA8000 setup. A flash memory based system would probably be suitable too, since I only need 2,5 GB of space for the tracks (max 45 minutes of 44,1/24/Mono*7).
Something like the Alesis HD24 (too expensive and too big).
Theoretically all you'd need is a flash card reader, connected to an ADAT controller/some other microcontroller into ADAT Out :/ A simple device in all, maybe hand-held sized
Edit:
Hell, I'll make this my Bachelor's Thesis. It's so simple and effective embedded system.
