Dio Memorial Roll Call

OMG they have VIP wrist bands for a memorial!?!!?! WOW! What a trip. Have a safe trip down Danny!! How long are you here for and when are you arriving? There is a band performing and the singer is from a local trib called Holy Diver. He is AMAZING!!! R.I.P Dio.

Kind of surprising...isn't it? I truly hope no one would use a VIP opportunity in a funeral/memorial as more of an excuse to rub elbows, than to pay respects to the departed. Very surprised, as you are that VIP exists for an event like this.

this kinda sounds like the Michael Jackson thing @ the Staples Center...so, everyone wants some kinda tix, bracelet...whatever.

Will just listen to Dio tunes instead and think of the couple concerts I saw and watch some clips on youtube.

I figured it was just going to be a crowded mad house so I just decided to pay my respects privately. What a loss, indeed...

I didn't realize the singer from Holy Diver would be performing--he really is very talented and and amazing ringer for RJD.

Was anybody from the forum there? I am curious to know how it was.

I think Andrew (metalhead_85) went.

I am going there now. Have to pay my respect. All we can do now is to wait for the second coming of Dio.

yeah I don't need to go get pushed around fighting for spots with a couple thousand to pay my respects. I can do it right there.

As for MJ - funny, the promoters called me 1 day before asking for VIP slots for only $5,000 if I was interested. Hang out with the family, special entrance, appetizers, reception, celebrities, etc. lol. Guess they were desperate to sell those slots.

It was nothing like the Michael Jackson thing. It was very personal and moving. There was a place for all the fans. Everyone was included. Felt someone very close died in our family. Dio was our King and our Guiding Light.

Well the WBC idiots showed up but so did the counterprotesters, and damn did hilarity ensue.

i went to the memorial with a couple of friends. they wanted to go early, thinking we would get in. i didnt expect to, and we didnt. it turns out there were only about 700 seats available to the general public. other than being outside it was very rewarding to have gone. there were lots of chairs and benches, and they set up one large video screen with a sound system and also several televisons. it wasnt crazy crowded, and those stupid protesters were outside the gates and we didnt have to see or hear them during the memorial. there were quite a few great musicians paying tribute in song, and it was as great as it was painful. joey belladonna, geoff tate, glenn hughes, john payne and ronnie's keyboardist scott warren all played solo songs. motorhead checked in by video from europe, they were on tour and couldnt make it here. we were given a memorial program and a button as well, and free water helped a lot, as it was blazing hot and the service was about 3-1/2 hours long, and everyone was given the opportunity to go in and say goodbye, if you were willing to wait in line. very well put together, very well done. i'm glad i was able to go.

I was there too (one of the lucky ones who got a wristband to get inside the hall). They ran out of wristbands a little after 11 a.m. Of course, no one knew that you needed a wristband to get in until you got there. However, they were VERY accommodating to all, with unlimited free bottled water, restrooms, large screens outdoors, etc. You can find plenty of vids/pix on blabbermouth.net and on youtube. Andrew also posted a great comprehensive review. It's a shame that people are selling the booklets, buttons, and shirts on ebay. You can buy the shirts and buttons soon via ronniejamesdio.com and all proceeds (100%) go the Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up and Shout" Cancer Fund. I hope a CD/DVD comes out for the event. It would be a great way to raise money for the fund. All the performances were incredible.

Sounds like it was a very touching event. Some of those signs people were holding up were really funny like the one (not pictured here) that said "I'm holding a sign". Too funny.
