Disincarnate???

I don't hold anything back.if an album is not my liking then I'm gonna say it.I'm sorry broke your important and unbreakable law but I will admit I did like the two albums james did with testament.

*yawn*

swallow your pride yet? or do you want to keep battling on the internet with your useless opinion that didnt matter either way if you announced it or not? power of the internet? or exposing how powerless your opinion really is more like it.

fine, you dont like it. said or unsaid, its been out for how many years? sold how many? is how popular with metal fans? actions speak louder than words bro... write your own albums and put em out here with how "powerful" the internet is so we can laugh at them and criticize them just the same.

moving on...

Guess I'm late in this pointless arguement, but I'll side with Mindful that the Disincarnate CD is only a bit better then average, I'd take any Death/Opeth/Emperor/Nevermore album over it. Does that mean I don't like it, of course not, just don't think its one of James better releases. I'd rather listen to his 2 solo CD's, 2 CD's with Testament, Obituary, Death, Cancer or Konkhra that he played on first. On the other hand, at this point I'll be happy if James records anything other then just a guest solo like on last years excellent Nevermore CD.

"Dreams of the Carrion Kind" is a fucking masterpiece. Hands down. When this album came out, it was one of the most anticipated metal releases ever - and for good reason. I listen to this album regularly, still, after all these years. I still love to play the riffs, too.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, I guess.:erk: Saying that you'd take any Death/Opeth/Emperor/Nevermore record over Disincarnate kinda discredits yours, though. Sorry, Ace.

Laurel, huh? I thought I was the only metalhead anywhere near this place!

You don't need to appologize, I'm sure you 3-4 folks are the only ones in the world who think the CD is a masterpiece. I remember more people being dissappointed then elated upon the records actual release. Hell, it took awhile before I thought it was even slightly above average. So, if you don't like Death/Opeth/Emperor/Nevermore that's fine, but that puts you in the minority. I'd like to hear what other death metal albums qualify as a masterpiece in your opinions? I hope that list doesn't include Broken Hope/Aborted/Burning Inside/Dying Fetus, if it does then we certainly have different tastes in death metal.

Don't be so sure. Most (if not nearly all) fans of extreme metal consider the Disincarnate album to be a masterpiece. How old were you when it came out? What planet were you on? I was in my early 20's and here on Earth where true metalheads lauded this album as one of death metal's finest creations.

I never said that I don't like Death/Opeth/Emperor/Nevermore. I have been a Death fan since "Spiritual...", but the Disincarnate album beats all Death records except maybe "Human". I love Nevermore, too. Especially the last two records, but only "TGE" ranks up there with Disincarnate for me. Opeth is not my thing, although I do respect them. With that being said, I don't consider Nevermore or Opeth to be death metal. Emperor was introduced to me by a band that I recorded back in the mid '90's. The guitarist said, "Dude, if you like Morbid Angel you'll love Emperor". He was wrong. No comparison.

Now here's a relatively short list (in no particular order) of some death metal albums that are masterpieces in my book -

1)"Dreams of the Carrion Kind" by Disincarnate
2)"Covenant" and "Formulas Fatal..." by Morbid Angel
3)"Heartwork" and "Necrotism..." by Carcass
4)"The Bleeding" and "Bloodthirst" by Cannibal Corpse
5)"Human" by Death
6)"Slaughter of the Soul" by At The Gates
7)"Retribution" by Malevolent Creation
8)"Pierced From Within" by Suffocation
9)"Demigod" by Behemoth

Man, I have great taste! Seriously, I base my classification for masterpiece status on three things - brutality, musicianship (especially guitars), and production. A couple of the albums that I listed aren't sonically "tits", but the message of the band and the songs come through loud and clear, which to me means everything.

I haven't heard that Behemoth, but the only 2 besides the #1 that I wouldn't include on my list is Bloodthirst and Formulas. IMO, Formluas was the worst record by Morbid Angel, then again I don't have their most recent release. I'm 30 now, so I would've been 17 when Disincarnate came out.
For just American Death Metal, I would add all the Death albums plus Obituary: Cause of Death/World Demise, Believer: Dimensions, Garden of Shadows: Oracle Moon, Brutal Truth: Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses, Deceased: Fearless Undead Machines and replace Formulas with Domination, I'd also throw Vital Remains: Dechristianize which is the best American Death Metal record I've heard since 2000.
There is certainly no comparison of Morbid Angel to Emperor, though both are extreme metal, very different styles, it took me a long time to get into In The Nightside Eclipse.

Well, now that we're way off topic...

A lot of people disagree with me on "Formulas...", but here's why I stand by it:

This is the first album by Morbid that didn't rely on the Satanic overtones which were always such a huge part of the band's identity. Obviously, David Vincent brought this to the table since the lyrics on FFTTF are nearly devoid of references or innuendos pertaining to El Diablo. Trey himself said that he never wrote anything with that stuff in mind. In fact, he wrote all of Morbid's music with ancient Sumerian beliefs and philosophy as the main source of inspiration. He also wrote the lyrics on this album, and if you notice, they are all based around that Sumerian stuff. When you read the (what I consider to be brilliant) lyrics and listen to the music, it becomes apparent that there is a cohesiveness between the two that takes this particular album to the next fucking level. Not to mention that the lyrics are extremely originial. I've never heard anything like them. Check this shit out -

The mighty of the world
are mighty of the flesh
But that of the flesh,
is crushed by that of the mountain!

Dude, that shit is fucking sick. And what about that crazy language that he uses? He knows what he's talking about.

Morbid Angel is Trey Azagthoth. When he got a chance to realize his vision for this band, he gave us this masterpiece so that we (and probably he) would, for the first time, hear what Morbid Angel is supposed to sound like.

Do yourself a BIG favor and listen to "Bloodthirst" again. It was produced by the godfather of smashyerfacein sound, Colin Richardson. Definitely their best sounding album, by a long way. Alex Webster and Pat O'Brien make a deadly duo. The first three songs alone are enough to make the extreme metal history books.

I'm still having a hard time trying to figure out how you missed Disincarnate. What were you listening to at the time? "Among The Living" came out when I was 17.

I fixed the typo from my previous post. Can't believe that I did that.

Death metal masterpieces? Where to start, besides Disincarnate.....

Morbid Angel "Blessed Are the Sick"
Death "Human" & "Spiritual Healing"
Boltthrower "Warmaster" & "Realm Of Chaos"
Asphyx "The Rack"
Edge Of Sanity "Crimson"
Exhumed "Anatomy Is Destiny"
Napalm Death "Harmony Corruption"
Entombed "Left Hand Path"
Nile "In Their Darkened Shrines"
Suffocation "Pierced From Within"
Sepultura "Beneath The Remains" & "Arise"
Vital Remains "Dawn of the Apocalypse" & "Dechristianze"
Akercocke "Chronozon"

of course, there are plenty of others, but that's enough....

and to be honest, I do not agree with that one person's assessment of Formulas being Morbid Angel's weakest cd, I would gladly award that one to Domination. :Spin:
