Formed by General K (also known as Savant K) in 2000 after he decided to take his leave of Myrkskog, Disiplin have already been making a name for themselves on the black metal circuit, not least by sending their demo recording to Satyr Wongraven (Satyricon frontman and Moonfog records head honcho) and entering into regular correspondence with the corpsepaint-crowd's most influential face as a result. Finally, after honing their sound to perfection (no doubt thanks in part to Satyr's advice), Disiplin have released their first full-length album, and by goat it's a stormer.

No-nonsense, chilly, furious and militaristic, Disiplin mixes the raw atmosphere of Darkthrone with the songwriting nous of Rebel Extravaganza-era Satyricon, mingling savagely effectively mid-tempo riffage with blastbeats while here and there adding a thrashier riff into the stew, or rampaging along on a looser rock and roll vibe whilst never losing the rabid intensity prevalent in the songs.

While this formula isn't exactly mind-blowingly original, it is devastatingly effective - the down-tempo death march in the midsection of 'Kniveregime' is an irresistably hooky black metal moment, while the near-anthemic surge of 'Liberation' provides a perfect fist-pumping opportunity. Add in a touch of Emperor-like stylistic leaning on 'Titan Imperia' and wrap it all up in a clear, powerful production, and the end result is an impressive black metal disc.
