distortus maximus hissssssssssssss

My trusty distortus maximus pedal has decided it wants to spew out loads of hiss all of a sudden...... It only happens when it's engaged seeing as it's true bypass. The case is steel and completely encloses all the electronics.
Any ideas what's going on or what to do?

and there's some sort of odd electrical noise in there too. You know that classic sound or arcing electricity, that ddzzzzzzzzzzzzzzuck noise. It's doing that on every note decay.......
