Do you agree with all the new changes here? I mean, I understand why it was done... but it seems a bit too drastic, like a parent thinking their child watches too much tv and just cutting off the electricity. I mean, there are *lots* of new threads now, but do you think there shouldve been a warning or that it couldve been accomplished another way?

I agree with the new changes here.
The UM forums here is probably the best that are out there. I've been to other ones and you will believe me that Ultimate Metal is many many times better.

I think it was better, like the Q&A, Last Word and the language chatting pages where real "chat" was going on.

The count 123 thread was a waste... And so were the now drinking/now wearing threads... but it was cool when a cutie would post :loco:

I wanted to pay for this forum, but that was a no-go. Ultimate Metal retains full control over this forum, as opposed to something user supported.

^ here, have some dried up dog shit straight from my front yard.

well the changes seem a bit sudden and also they don't make too much sense to me right now, but still i hope they really are effective in their purpose cause i was really starting to get tired of some people

in fact i don't see any huge problem in starting a new thread after the old one has reached 1000. it doesn't really stop personal spam, only thread-related spam with the purpose of getting to one thousand billion replies because it's obvious that bigger is always better. still some of the language threads were really used to chat, and this forum is called "chat" so i don't particularly see the problem with those, even if they exceeded 1000 posts.

as for person-specific intervention, at times it's kind of hard to decide what is "chatting" and what is "posting something that noone will ever be remotely interested in reading". i wouldn't ask any mod to enforce rules based on such opinions.

@hearse: as much as i understand your concern for the existence of something you can't bump, i must say the possibility to actually start a new thread fills this gap quite efficiently: you can always prolong a topic's existence by adding new threads about it when the old ones are "full".
still i must say you have a point, because spammers might actually invade serious threads until they've reached their limit just in order to bury them sooner, and act all trollish and smug about it.

What do you mean "lost" ? :err:

there is only limit of 1000 replies.. and then you have to make new thread.
what is the huge problem in that?
its not a problem, but it sux. now there we will probably have millions of threads instead of few with million of posts in them! just look at the serious off topic board and tell me if that is good. why do we need so fucking a lot of threads? thats bullshit. if people want to spam, let we do it in few threads not spam in all threads.
till now for example if you wanted to chat just few things with someone, you could do it in "who gets the last word in" thread, now this is impossible. of course we have PMs and MSN, but still. this decision is totally pointhless and useless, imo...
dunno, but I hate in forums to see thread with just few replies in it. I have a database and forums on my sites, too...and I definatelly hate if there is a lot of threads...its just a mess and trash in database...

well this is just my opinion, I dont like it in this way...

Knowing why this rule wås åpplied to this forum, I would såy it's eåsy as hell to do some specific intervention.

(I think i'm being blatantly obvious :D )

yeah, this time it probably is. but tomorrow there might be borderline cases that require more arbitrary decisions on the part of the administrators. as for the case in point, i've always been of the opinion that if the rule is "no spam", once you see someone covering every thread on the first page with identical one-liners, you have to ban. or at least warn first, ban later.

my only concern was the official chatting thread in spanish, that's what brought me to chat everyday.
but we'll rise again.

The nice thing about some of these threads were that they DID stick around for a while, so users who didn't check in everyday had something familiar to look at and participate in without having to read through 4 pages of new threads a day.

I would think Mark would understand this, but apparently Off Topic spam is okay, but our way (which was absued by a few) is not.

New thread suggestions Mark would approve of:

My Balls itch
Suck my dogs dick
Fuck me whilie my baby sister watches

But Q&A or other conversational thread....

Let's face it, Last Word had declined into an intensely dull "hey how are you today??" thread. Okay, it was never the most earth-shattering of threads, but surely it was never as dull before as it was in recent weeks/months.

The NP thread was a strange one to close IMO, unless Mark will now close every NP thread in the other forums.

And the NF thread was painful to see closed, since it was my own baby.
