Hey

A friend of mine sells his drumkit Mapex Meridian Birch. 5 toms: 8", 10", 12", 14", 16" and a 22" kick. He includes also the stock snare, a kick pedal, a Meinl Classic 16" crash, a Sabian B8 20" ride and Meinl Classic 8" hihats + basic Pearl stool. Everything is in perfect working condition. I can buy these for 600 euros. I think it's a pretty good deal but I'd like to have some opinions before buying as I don't know this model.

I would use it in studio exclusively, for metal and rock recordings.

Thanks!

Hey dude, I have the older version of this kit the Mapex M-Birch. Think it's just the hardware thats been upgraded for the Meridian line.

I picked mine up super cheap (£80) but it was just a shell pack, 12, 13, 16, 22, no snare. Though I've added 8, 10 and 14 toms over time by keeping my eye on ebay.

It's a pretty decent mid level kit if you get some decent skins on it, I'm using Evans G2 Clear on tom top and G1 clears on bottom, Remo Powerstroke 3 clear on kick. I find if the drummers good I can get decent natural toms out of it. Kick is ok, if you get one that has an undrilled kick drum they sound AWESOME! Compared mine side by side to my old drummers undrilled kick (also a M-Birch with a Remo PS3) and it was no contest, even with my kick tuned lower his just had so much more punch.

As far as the cymbals go the B8 ride is absolutely horrible, not sure on the Meinls as I haven't used them.

Wow £80? Cheap as hell indeed! Yes it's basically the same as the M. Birch kit from what I saw on reviews. Unfortunately this kit has a drilled kick drum, that's one thing that's making me hesitate actually and you confirm this point. I use the same exact drumheads for the toms, so good to have your opinion. I'm pretty sure that the snare is a piece of shit but it's just a bonus I could sell (like cymbals!). I will check it out this week-end... Thanks mate!

To be honest the snare is ok, nothing special though. The drilled kick isn't bad to be honest, just not as much wow factor as the undrilled ones I've heard (hell it's just gonna be triggered anyway right? ;) )

Ahah! Well... You're not wrong but I prefer to be able to use the acoustic signal as main tone even if it's enhanced :) As you said, it's not bad at all. I'll throw an eye on the drums in a week or so and certainly buy it. Always great to have a decent drumkit at disposal and be sure to have fresh heads on it and properly tuned. I was so upset several times to send recommandations to bands and finally see a crappy kit with 25 years old heads on it in the studio :puke:
