I'm toying around with the idea of dropping $150 or so on EQuality as an alternative to Digi's EQ3 for my general cleaning up work. Think there is much point to it? Or is a workhorse digital EQ a workhorse digital EQ?

Poll included for fun's sake.

I didn't like the answer (".. and you shouldn't spend your money"), but i voted for the first option: I use my DAW's included EQ).
The Logic Channel EQ pwns the shit out of most EQs imho, and the built-in analyzer is amazing. That said, I use other EQs too. The Logic EQ gets used for surgical cuts plus low and high-cuts.. so it's safe to say I use it as a filter, and that's where the analyzer is extremely helpful.
For "colouring" on the other hand, I use 3rd party EQs - mostly: Waves SSL E/G Channel EQ, Waves V-EQ 4, SonEQ, NEQ-1972 and others.
The Waves Q10 doesn't do anything better than the Logic EQ (at least for me) and it lacks the analyzer.. plus the Channel EQ settings are always visible if you select a track even without opening the mixer.

For mastering I use the EQ coming with Izotope Ozone, or the Logic Linear Phase EQ.. I'm GASing for another nice EQ though, like the FabFilter ProQ.

edit: Probably should've voted for B, but I feel like the Logic EQ basically gives you everything you need. The rest is just my G.A.S.

I used my DAW's included EQ (Digidesign EQ3) quite often for small adjustments, dips or hi/low passing, but I also and mostly use many other EQs (MH Labs Channel Strip, Brainworx Digital V2, and UA's Manley Massive Passive, Neve 88RS, Helios 69, Neve 1073, Neve 1081, Pultec-Pro, Cambridge) depending on the task and what I want to achieve.
So I won't vote and definitely agree that a 4th category should be created (also, choice n#2 should be "I use 3rd party EQs", plural...).

I do use my DAWs EQ here and there (HP/LP only usually) but typically am using the EQ in SSL Channel just because I don't like working with a graphic EQ, I'd rather have knobs and be forced to use my ears. My mixes have been improving a lot since abandoning the ol' graph.

I did use Cubase's EQ till I got this:

Equality is amazing I'd def recommend it beats the shit out of cubases stock eq. I know pretty much all digital eqs sound the same but I personally cannot use an eq to it's fullest potential unless the GUI is great and I think equality is one of the best though I've never used the Pro tools stock

Mainly 3rd party, The TrackS paragraphic is just great. I use reaEQ for some stuff, but tbh the interface sucks a bit, far too small. I really need to get a decent modern paragraphic eq plugin again but because it's not gonna be a massive sonic difference i always shy away from spending the money

I use just a little the EQ of my DAW and mainly the EQ from Variety of Sound, and filtrate LE for chirurgical EQ.

Yeah, I use the standard Logic EQ (or EQ3 if I'm in PT) for about 80%-90% of my eq needs. For the rest, it's Stillwell's 1973 and Vibe-EQ, since I don't own anything else yet. Obviously I've used the Waves API's and SSL's etc. so I do know how they sound like, and will use them if I'm not mixing on my own setup and they're available.
