If I could play piano, I'd learn that version of "Can I play with Madness" and play it at xmas time. What a singalong it would be, oh yes. :tickled:

lolz gayboards

sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. although i think the rockin' qualities of piano was established long ago, with queers like jerry lee lewis and little richard.

WHen it works, it sounds brilliant. Mar de Grises, Arcane Sun, and even 7 Angels 7 Plagues mastered the piano usage for their albums.

Lameass power metal synths aside, I rarely have any objection to use of keyboards in metal...of course, that sort of tastelessness accounts for about two-thirds of metal keyboardists, but the rest makes up for it, Arcturus (and most of their relations) and Pain Of Salvation coming to mind right away. And lots of doom metal bands.

The piano sound recording didn't sound too great. You guys heard Tori Amos' cover of Slayer's Raining Blood?

I think any instrument can have a place in metal. It will always be a guitar-dominated genre... but any instrument can be introduced with good results. Piano works brilliantly. Also, the use of other keyboard instruments can work very well (harpsichord, mellotron, organ, synths, etc). I also like the use of mallet percussion (check out some of the stuff on Pain of Salvation's "Perfect Element" album).
