I've been trying to growl for two years. I've read EVERY thread on this topic at this forum, whether using the search or accidentally. The way I used to growl never was consistent, it kept messing up my regular singing and it would hurt my throat after a bit. Now, recently, after fucking up my normal singing voice and destroying my range, I found another way. I've only been using this technique for a few days. It doesn't hurt my throat, it just gets a bit raw if I go too high. So, would you experts at growling, let me know how this is? And please criticize. Should I stop growling and just do normal singing or keep trying? Any help is much appreciated.

Here are two samples.

How about let's hear your normal singing voice. Then maybe we can compare. Some vocalists are able to use a combo of vocal styles within one song. Maybe you can do this. As far as your samples go, the second was better. Personally, there are very few growlers that I like. I like Opeth's mix of growls and clean. I also like Old Man's Child. Those groups might not be the kind of sound you are going for, though. That said, my opinion may not matter!

Eh, I'm rusty on the singing voice. I just started back up after 3 months of not singing. Don't know if I'd put it up for question, seeing as how this is for the growl. Yeah, Mike is one of my favorite growlers, but this isn't about him. Thanks for the post though.

It sounds okay. of course most people sound like complete idiots growling without a band behind them so you're at a big disatvantage. I think it sounds pretty good. what did you change in your technique so that it doesn't hurt your throat?
