This is a start on a song for my side project "barren." This is probably the first thing I've been happy with in a while. The mix is alright, but mostly in the demo stage right now, everything will be rerecorded eventually. I need your opinions on the songwriting, or "listenability" if you will (and of course on the mix also).

Thanks

Hey Damian, pretty cool music dude, but almost everything sounds so muffled; guitars, snare, kick (though I'd say more the kick is just too low), even cymbals a bit; also, the bass is pretty muddy/low-middy, I've found I'm much preferring using ReaXComp to control problematic lower frequencies (rather than eq'ing), just seems to be so much more effective IME; I'd give it a try, though it's not desperately needing it (worse at some parts though, so more compression might be in order). Rhythm guitars are a bit low IMO, and as I mentioned quite muffled; what are you monitoring on?

Hey Marcus, thanks for the reply. I have a hunch you listened the first clip, considering I didn't update the original post with the newest one :loco: Sorry about that, I just updated it. Is the new one any better?

Haha, yup, right you are :D Newer version is indeed much better; still not crazy about the guitars, but at least muffling isn't the issue now (they're just kinda dry), and there's something about the snare that doesn't quite do it for me (maybe too much lows), but it's a minor quip - also, the synths and cymbals are a bit too loud IMO, and the guitars a touch too low; a massive improvement though, kudos :headbang: What'd you do different?
