Dragon*Con on CNN

I like Sci-Fi stuff, but the only DragonCon I've been too was when Iced Earth played at 2 in the morning.

I went Friday night for an afterparty. Ran into Pellaz on my way out.

I will definitely be going next year and buying a pass. Had more fun there than I have in a long, long time.

...with the other 45-50 people, including me. :erk: Do you recall the 6 or 7 kids who were trying to mosh and crowd surf? Please don't tell me you were one of them.

No, I was cured of moshing long before then. The only time I ever tried was at a Slayer show at the International Ballroom (that place still around?). Got my ass kicked and lost my hat, so I had to go back in for it. That was enough moshing for one life time.

Yeah, it's been a pretty notorious, apparently newsworthy year. Getting William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy at the same event is quite rare, which is one reason we got a lot of coverage. Rumour has it that Shatner had a great time and wants to return.

I saw that on CNN the other night! I looked for Cashman, but he was prolly in costume (lol).

I brought along a fuckton of costume stuff including swords and my new leather armor, but just didn't have the energy (or time) to wear it on Sunday or Monday, which were my target days. I did bust out some PVC jeans on Sunday night, but that was for a concert there.

Same here! He's a total sci-fi/fantasy nut!:Saint::kickass::rock:

And it's ironic that nowadays, I attend more concerts at Dragon*Con than I do SF/fantasy literature panels!

Gotta say....this year's D*C was a pretty good one. I'm still in awe over a couple of the concerts -- Faith & the Muse, Ghosts Project -- that I saw.

Really crowded, though. We're adding a new hotel again next year, I hear!

Yep, but it has changed names and no longer does any metal shows...I'm pretty sure it's now a Latino club only.

I had lots of fun at dragoncon this year getting to see more of the cast of cinematic titanic and rifftrax (mst3k) thats the real main reason i go every year is to see them and dean haglund (the lone gunmen), my wife goes to all the vampire crap but i just walk around then, and that's how it's been for years! but i didn't see it on cnn because i will not watch that channel u know fake news and all, i only get my news from www.infowars.com (alex jones) or coast to coast am.(george noory) i know im one of those people but i can't help it ive read tooooo much stuff, it's a bad habit i have reading about the real government and the fake mass media.

I bought a 4-day pass for next year. When its the same price as a Saturday-only pass, it was a no brainer. I look forward to having a better time next year, attending some of the panels, and such. Really wish I could have seen Abney Park and Faith and the Muse. Love both of those bands, but wasn't able to get there when they were playing.

Yep, $50 for a 4-day pass is a steal.

Sorry you didn't catch Abney Park or F&tM! The former were great on the acoustic stage -- I had to miss their mainstage set in favor of Bella Morte -- and Faith and the Muse were great in both locations.
Last time for Abney Park on the acoustic stage, though, unless we move it to a ballroom or something...the size of the audience almost got us shut down.

I didn't even know you were going to DC this year, man. I hope I can make it over there next year, though.

That Faith & the Muse show was one of the best sets I have seen in the past decade.

Huge year for me, my new guests included Charlaine Harris and Mike Mignola, among many others. I could start listing names but I would leave someone out and feel bad about it later.

Quinn? Sherri?

BTW, first three of my vids from Faith and the Muse's set -- including "Cantus" -- are now up on YouTube. More to follow:

EDIT: whew, aside from the early feedback issues and a couple of occasionally talkative nearby fans, that vid of "Cantus" is sweeeeet.

Oh, I should add that if anyone is interested in attending both Dragon*Con and ProgPower next year, the two events will once again occur only one week apart. I know that Dave "no, not THAT Dave" and Mare Thomas are tentatively planning to "come early and stay late." :kickass:

Quinn? Sherri?

That's why I specified "new" guests... and those two weren't the only new guests I had, either. I had so many big names attending for the first time, if I started naming all speakers - old or new - it would be a long, long list. Great year overall. Some of those authors I momentarily forgot at times were guests and not part of my volunteer team!
