CNN - Still Not Getting It

Yeah, that's fine, but bands who base their entire approach on a strong political view without paying attention to the fine details of making good music don't get my vote.

Quite understandably.

I prefer metal that has lyrics of a fantastical nature, which is why I stick mostly to power and black metal. I do love death metal, but I rarely listen to the lyrics, because most of the time it has nothing to offer to me. Actually, I rarely listen to the lyrics of most bands, but the lyrics often reflect the music.

but i do have one gripe. that article was completly thrown tot he left. no mention of any band that might be supportive of bush or a more conservative view on politics.

how can they ignore bands like slayer (see "dittohead"). there are plenty of metalheads who support the right. i guess we dont get a voice.

Actually, read the lyrics for "Consfearacy" on the Christ Illusion CD.

i love the "modern" goregrind scene. i love the old school goregrind scene. i love grind in general but feel more affinity for the swamped in gore end of the spectrum. why? well i'm glad you asked! slayer, onslaught, celtic frost, bathory, possessed, these bands caught my ear and took me to new heights. but then i needed more. carcass, napalm death, death, morbid angel, cannibal corpse, obituary, repulsion, that took me into fantastical new realms that i never dreamed existed. then everyone decided they needed to prove points and prove how socially conscious they are, or how fast they can sweep an arpeggio, or how grim and kvlt they can be, or blah blah blah. and i lost interest. but being as i have been a fan of splatter/horror movies my entire life, i naturally had leaned towards the more sanguinary bands anyways, it was a natural progression into the muddy depths of toilet bowl gutturalness that comprises the "modern scene". sure there is no hauntingly beautiful melodies, no 4 minute guitar solos, no 5 octave singers or catchy backbeats to tap your toes to. that is because this brand of musician doesn't want you to sing along and feel inspired. they want you thoroughly repulsed and disgusted by their art. they want the sheeple to have disturbing nightmares at mere mention of their moniker. they want harsh violent noise that reams out your earballs like a cheesegrater q-tip.
it's anti-melody.
it's anti-beauty.
it's anti-life.
that is all.
and it sounds like the genre is achieving exactly what it set out to achieve.

forgive the inane rambling. the coffee just kicked in this mourning. :Smug:

Well, that comes across as merely a swipe at the current administration, not the political right as a whole. And that shouldn't really come as a surprise, given that anti-Bush sentiments are no longer coming just from Democrats. The band has explicitly stated many of their political views over the years (wasn't "Silent Scream" supposed to be pro-life?), most of which are right wing in nature. But they've also implied that they're not inclined to blindly stand up for all things Republican, presidents included.

because it causes the little hairs on the back of my neck to stand at attention. it get's my blood pumpin and makes my head start bobbin. it fills my skull with with a solid wall of noise that sounds as if it's gurgling up through a swamp of coagulated blood clots.

to tell the truth, i never really question why i like some forms of art more than others, i just do! art of all forms is only there to please an individual. and what is art to one, is used 1-ply toilet paper to another!

I just don't see what Carcass, in ANY incarnation, has to do with the modern 'goregrind' scene...

Reek of Putrefaction / Symphonies of sickness = Razorback Records catalogue :kickass:
