I like the album. Alot. and whether or not that is rapping, it still works good with that part of the song.

I love ToT. Its Dream Theater's best by far, they finally decided to drop all the cheesiness and wimpiness and make a kickass epic metal album.

Just heard this today. I have to say I've never liked DT before now. This album blew me away, maybe it's the lack of cheese, the good vocals, and the fact they arent trying so fucking hard to be prog anymore.

ToT is excellent
far better than Six Degrees, more emotional, with amazing riffs and melodies.
Even Labrie's singing is GREAT (which is a rare thing)

WOW, are all of you on crack or have your ears just gone?
The music is decent at best, the songs are too long and go nowhere.
Labrie's voice has not nor shall it ever fit the heavier style the band drifts into.
The are ripping off riffs left and right. I just bought the CD today and about 5 songs into it, I hear metallica, Fates Warning riffs all over the place along with about 5 other bands.
and that " don't cross the broken step " line or whatever it was made my friends and I laugh out loud.
What I don't understand is DT has mastered the " what not to do in a prog band " genre and everyone continues to gush over them like school girls!
Damn, I can't even continue to point out the faults in this band. :Smug:

there is no single Fates Warning riff on ToT (and i like Fates Warning a lot more than D.T.)
the music is so much above decent, anyone can write something decent and the riffs, melodies, and harmonies on ToT are not written by anyone.
Oh and i think almost noone can point out the faults on an other band where the band's musicians probably do know better (especially if that band is Dream Theater)

Actually to be specific, there is a riff on this album that sounds ALOT like the Fates Warning song " pieces of me " off the disconnected CD.
And there of course is the whole section where DT ripped off " Blackened " by Metallica.
I know I am in the minority when it comes to DT, I was a fan way back in the day ( saw them PRE james Labrie many times ) back then I was the guy telling people to go listen to this band. Now it seems I am in the minority again on the opposite side, telling people to not bother.
