Drowning in CDs

Shit no, I have so many stinking piles of unlistened albums. On one hand yeah it's great, but on the other it's overwhelming. I need to quit my job just to listen to music full time. Maybe that's just what I want to do.

We need to get our promo review backlog out of the way. Just to let you know, Papa Josh dropped a mother load of seven deadly reviews in last night!

If we can, it would be nice to get a big upload in the next batch. It'll kill me to format the lot, but shit, it'll be worth it just to clean the pipes.

We need a 36DD upload, you know what I'm saying?

*realizes Ali doesn't check his RC email at work*

I'm not sure if I'm going to be getting many reviews in the next week or two, but rest assured by the end of the month I plan on carving a serious hole into my promo pile. It shall be done, oh yes, it shall be done.

Yep, the firewall here prevents me from checking RC e-mail, and yet I can get into my server and do an upload if I wanted. Weird.

OK cool. Time flies when you think about it. Only 8 weeks left until the end of the year which means we all need to clear our 2003 promo release backlog AND get our top ten lists compiled...egad!

Actually, NAD, you have two reviews outstanding as is. I'll include those in the next batch.

There are more promos waiting to be adopted into loving family homes as well.

Yes, oh yes. Not only promos, I've bought more albums than I can really handle lately. Can't really give everything proper listens... This madness must end! o_O

Anyone else just consumed up to the eyeballs in albums?!! Or am I alone in this madness?
I hear ya.

Does anyone out there use any catalog software for their cd collection? It would be a large endeavor having over 1500, but I need better sytem of organization.

I use a program for dvds called dvd profiler. It's free and I highly recommend it. http://www.dvdprofiler.com/

There's this excellent catalog software called "Notepad"... You just type stuff into lines like so:

Celtic Frost "Cold Lake" CD

and then you can search with the built-in search feature! Truly an amazing piece of software.

Notepad is only for code writing computer guys, that shit is too hard to learn. :p

http://www.cd-tracker.com is one I'm probably going to start soon, Shakermaker has a nice list there and it seems easy to organize.

Has anyone ever purchased a CD they already own? I've yet to do that, but I'm sure it's bound to happen.

When Century was doing those two classic albums on one disc re-release a few years ago, I bought You'll Never See.../And Here I Die... by Grave twice. A friend reaped the reward of that blunder.

I've almost double bought Incantation cds a few times, all their covers look the freaking same...

I've looked at cd-tracker, but it seems that you have to manually enter everything in, and if you have a ton of cds, that's too much of a pain for me. The dvd program I use, I can scan the barcode, type it in, or even put the disc in a dvd rom drive and it recognizes it, retrieves every bit of information about the disc and catalogs it for you. I'd like to find the equivilent for cds if it exists. I know it does in fact, I've seen them, but I just can't remember what the programs were called...

Compared to my friends, yeah, I am :p if anything, it's been worth it to see peoples reactions when I tell them Yes, those CDs are albums, not singles, or when you accidentally take the crap off the boxes of LPs... :D

Oh wow, that's cool. I was just planning on manually entering mine small batches at a time, I didn't know there might be something that easy out there. If I had more than 20 DVDs I'd use the DVD one definitely. :)

My top ten list for 2003 is all over the shop. And since I'm living in a plague of unheard CDs, I withdraw all predictions until the very end!!

Dude I have even more reviews in the works. I will have cleared my backlog promowise by the time of the upload after this next one.

And as fas as catalogs I use the good 'ol fashion Excel sheet!!

My list is pretty freakin nuts.
Just let me know when you're ready for more promos!!
