dual rectifier help

hi guys, my bud just got a mesa dual and it looking for some help with tones. any one post some settings that have worked well for you guys live. Also, should he run a o/d pedal in front to clean it up a little?
He's playing into a marshall 1960 cab and playing metal/hardcore type stuff.

What guitar/pickup is he using?

-Bold
-Silicon
-Modern setting
-Presence 10 Oclock
-Gain 12-13 Oclock
-Bass 15-17 Oclock
-Mid 11 Oclock
-Treble 12 Oclock

Overdrive/tubescreamer in front to tighten the bass/chuck up.
