For you guys with two channel dual recto's, what do you use primarily for your rhythm channel? Orange or red? And set how? Vintage or Modern?

What about for leads?

Cheers.

It depends on the tone I am after. Both the red and orange channels sound amazing in my opinion, and they can be used for different things. For metal rhythm tones, I use the modern mode on both channels. But yeah, both are equally suitable for metal guitars and in the end it just comes down to which one you prefer.

Even though I don't normally scoop the mids at all, but with my Recto my favourite tones are often a combination of cranking the presence quite high (11o'clock on the red channel and 3 o'clock on the orange) and then having the mids just below nine o'clock.

As you have propably noticed the presence control is very aggressive on the red channel, so use it with moderation!

There has been a lot of folks on this forum that tried to use the Sneap Recto settings with the presence on 12:30. Those settings were for the red channel of an older 2 channel Dual, and it just gets a bit too bright for many(depending on the cab, PU's etc.) The orange channel sounds a lot more like the red channel on the 2channel heads.

Then the thing to remember, use as little gain as possible! When lowering the gain, it usually sounds like you have just dialed in a rock type of distortion, but once your ears adjusts to the tone, it will sound killer. And this is very helpful making the leads smoother! I have my gain at 10o'clock on both the orange and the red channel.

Green channel/pushed mode sounds killer when for low/mid gain lead tones, so try that as well!

So yeah, a Recto can be a bitch dialing in, but once you know how the controls work, you can get a huge variety of great tones out of it.
Here's the info in a nutshell:
-when you have the channel set at modern, the presence control has a big effect on the mids, almost like a "sweep" knob, so you can really find the kind of mids you want with the presence and mid knobs.
-be careful with the presence control on the red channel
-don't use a lot of gain!
-use a boost pedal (I didn't mention this before, but..) like an Ibanez TS, Maxon Od etc. It tightens the tone a lot, and makes it a lot more focused.

Hope this helps!
