Dumb Q - How to pronounce Nuendo?

gimme a break people.. it's "NEW-END-OH".. period. play on the word "innuendo" or not, that's how it's pronounced... even by the company... heard it that way at NAMM from top Steinberg reps and brass and even the video presentations on Steinberg's own site pronounce it "new-end-oh" : http://www.steinberg.de/quicktime/nuendo32/Nuendo32_small.mov

when's the last time you pronounced the word Nevermore as "IN-EVER-MORE", eh? despite what karl steinberg may have intended, new-end-oh has become the standard pronunciation, even at Steinberg, and i thnk it always was.

Respectfully -

It's not "NEW-END-OH"! I called Steinberg TWICE in a 15 minute period and got two different answers from their technical reps. They are just as confused as most others.

The man who actually gave this product it's name says it's pronounced "innuendo". How can you argue with that? Regardless of how the Steinberg reps pronounce it, that's what it is. Using the "play on words" technique actually WORKS with N-U-endo, unlike N-Evermore. It's like deciperhing vanity plates on vehicles, ie. CULATER.

Like I said earlier, take into consideration the meaning of the word "innuendo", and it's pretty obvious that it's not "new-endo" or whatever. There's a record label in New York called Nuendo Music Group, and they pronounce it as "innuendo". Their tag line is "The Look of the New Major".

blah blah blah.

lol.. sorry, i just think all this fuss over this is funny.

every steinberg rep i've ever heard and every video on their site says "New-End-Oh", so despite KS's oringal intent, New-End-Oh has become the most common pronunciation. so there.

but you know what.. it doesn't matter... who cares? it's trivial. i can't even beieve i'm posting in this thread!

Remember: Karl Steinberg is a german!

Maybe he didn't even know how to pronounce "innuendo" right.:)

But in general Ithink it doesn't matter how you pronounce it, as long as everyone knows what you're talking about!

It is trivial, but very annoying to me at the same time. The Steinberg guys used to say "innuendo" when Nuendo first came out.

I find some of the arguments used in this thread pretty odd. It's not a tomeito/tomaato kind of thing. The name of the product is Nuendo. It's a name. There is a word in the english langue, "innuendo", so what?
My name is Tore. Nobody outside of Sweden/Norway ever pronounces it correctly, most people use their native language's grammar/logic to find their own way to pronounce it, which is fine by me. But the day I hear somebody call me In-Tore, I will seriously question his/her ability of logical reasoning.

Nobody outside of Sweden/Norway ever pronounces it correctly
That's what I say, but add Finland too ;)

When native english speakers pronounce something, there's a high level of pronounciation in any foreign word (even if it resembles one in english), however when non-native speakers think of a word, it is at first thought in their own native language, then on-the-fly (tried to) pronounced in the english way.

In languages where pronounciation is not a big part of the main speech (Finnish and German are such), it sounds completely different than in languages where heavy pronounciation is a huge part of the spoken words (English, French, etc).

Anyways, the main part is that who cares how it's pronounced as long as everyone understands what is talked about ;)

My main engineering lecturer, who is german, worked for Steinberg for over 3yrs and pronouces it "new-end-oh".

It's only a name "me-talking-dom" :p

It's most common to hear people who totally suck at playing guitar. Does that mean you are really the one who totally sucks because you don't do the same thing as everybody else, even though sucking isn't the right thing to do in the first place?

If everybody used Behringer equipment, would that mean everybody who doesn't is using the wrong gear?

Is Bob Moog actually pronouncing his own name wrong? What about H.R. Giger? Could it be that Neumann is really a different way of spelling "Newman?"

In my language, Nuendo is comfortably spoken "Noo-And-Ow" :goggly:

It's common to hear Drumagog as "Droom-ah-gog", Cubase as "Coo-bah-se", Reason as "Hey-ah-zon". If I were to be annoyed by that I would ending up killing somebody.

:erk:...oh jesus titty-fuckin' christ, now i've heard it all.

ridiculous... so here's an equally ridiculous one to support my statements: since the the germans who created Volkswagen pronounce it "FOLKS-VAAGEN" is every english speaking person on the planet who pronounces it differently retarded?:Smug:

any one see the movie Stripes? repeat after me in your best Bill Murray impersonation: "IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER... IT JUST DOESN"T MATTER" now go join the army.

Oh and just as a point fo refrence ... Mr Murphy is correct once again ... why even bother arguing ...

James I'm officially giving over my Guru'ness to you. :P
well... we seem to have agreed on the principle of it not mattering and even found the same supporting evidence (see my two posts above)... so, we can share the Guru'ness.
