Hey there....
this is so not metal!
I'd appreciate if you'd comment on it anyways.

the goal was to achieve a natural sound (kinda Jack Johnson or the like).
so these are all real instruments, a shitload of roommics on the drums, no samples, no gates on the snare etc.
So what do you think about the first ruff-version? (remember, this is not meant to sound "metal").

Ein Sommerglied

thanks for comments and advice

Metal Kick Drum Syndrome.:p

Hehe, yeah....pulled the mic out to the port, used felt-batter and almost no EQ during mix at all.....still it sounded too metal. that came to 90% from the bottom snare-mic that had to be compressed, eq'ed and not gated ;).

that bothered me in the first part though...in the last part they wanted a "kinda" metal sound...so on that part I eQ'ed it "metal"

;)

it was a "yamaha recording custom" kick...I took some samples with a wood-batter and mic-metal-position as well (the other songs are completely different, more ska-punk-orchestra)....
unfortunately all I had was a beyer opus something for a kickmic.....otherwise this would have made awesome samples....great kick for metal!

Very cool!!!

You know ... this has exactly the feel, heart and soul that I was missing in the other recording ...

Both recordings are technically well done, but these artists just "got it in them" ... don't know if that makes any sense ...

Yeah. it does, but these musicians are way more experienced, the other band has just been playing for like 2 years or so and they're really young and unexperienced...give them 3-4 more years together and they might become pretty good.
