Eliminator Hi-Hat Question

werd up peeps.

i have an eliminator hi-hat stand, and am sincerely annoyed by how much the metal rod in the center sticks off of where i have my hats sitting.

does anyone know if this thing can retract into the stand? i've looked and fiddled with it for hours, and can't figure it out.

if it doesn't retract, does anyone know if sawing off the rod at the top will have any negative effects on the operations of the stand?

If you loosen the clutch, the foot pedal will drop, but you can adjust the chain down at the bottom to bring it back up once you have the bar retracted as far as you want.
