dunno if anyone tried this before, so i just disconnected the battery
and di a short clip. i had to push the gain all way up but it sounds really
nice to me, really defined and dynamic.

i guess i can't damage anything useing no battery right?

here's the clip:

EMG NO BATTERY

what do you think?

cheers

PS: yeah i'm a bit bored right now! :D

I have an on/off switch (connected to the battery terminals) on one of my guitars.
You flick the switch and go from a really high gain sound to a kind of low gain crunch. Really cool modification for saving battery life, since you don't need to constantly unplug the lead when you're not playing.

Wasn't totally fond of the clip though. Pretty nasally/honky sounding, although it could have been worse sounding I guess.
I imagine you had to turn up the gain A LOT to get that, since the battery being disconnected reduces the output massively

i turned the gain almost completely up! :D
yeah, soloed it sounds thin and undergained but i can imagine tha it could work really well in a mix with bass and fat drums.
i'm just stoked it if can work in a mix, actually i thought that without the battery it won't make any sound at all.

oh damn, i knew i forgot something...:D

but ok, this was actually not meant to be a comparison, just wanted to know if anyone else tried this...

my normal EMG tone is nice (IMHO) but the non battery version sems to be much more dynamic and clear.
sure it has less gain so i have to try what my normal setup sounds like when i lower the distortion to match the non battery level.
i can imagine that less gain brings more clearness but the dynamics, what's happening here?

the clean tones are about a thousand times better without a battery attached.
i need to turn up everything to get a good level though. the clean tone is very clear and balanced,
sounds more DI-like but not as sterile.

what baout the technical side!?
when i take off the battery do i tun up the EMG into a passive pickup.

EMG's have less windings IIRC so they are much more dynamic and clear but the output is weak.
that's why there is a preamp built in so the output gets higher and dynamics, uhm... decrease!?

PS: cool to see you here man! :)
