EMG 81 vs 81TW

*My mistake, on the thread title I actually meant 81X. I have the 81TW in another guitar, but this is the 81X vs 81 in the same guitar*

So I recorded a short clip off a single riff.

The riff is by the band Judgement (nwright's band) and the song is 21 Grams.

I left it a .wav so that the quality is the highest.

Same signal chain for both. First 81, then 81X.

What do you think?

They Sound the same to me. It's the single coil mode of the TW that I like from the samples on the emg site. If I was in the market for a new pu the TW would make it's way quick to the top of the list for the single coil sounds.

I meant 81X, sorry... haha... I can't seem to edit the thread title.

I do have the 81TW in another guitar, tho. And yeah, great single coil sounds. In fact, MUCH more convincing than any passive hubucker coil-tapped or split or whatever I've heard... but I think the 81TW's humbucker mode sounds more different to the standard 81 than the 81X to the standard 81...

Listening, I can't honestly say I noticed any real difference between the two.

Surprisingly, I prefer the 81x. More headroom. is this the same as having an 81 with the 18 volt mod?
