I've seen one of these for sale for a extremely low price, and it's tickled my fancy. The only problem is that there's like nothing about the thing. Like two bad camera-phone soundclips that I could find, and I don't want to fly blind in on it purely based on the ENGL name. How similar is this thing to the e530, or anyone have any proper clips of it?

It's basicly the same gear, with a couple of extra features...
I even think that the older one, E520, has more vintage sound, based on pictures of the inside view I once saw on the web...

Well, how much more "vintage" is it? I'm just wondering how close the e530 is to it so I know whether or not those samples are valid. Would it still handle a metal situation like it's successor? I need it for power/thrash.

I had an e520 several years ago. I wasn't terribly impressed with it at the time. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how it stacks up to the e530. If it's pretty cheap, then why not go for it? You could always sell it if you don't like it.

Not enough to leave it behind. It's not a Fender Twin, It's and Engl preamp, so...
If you could hear the difference between the Vintage and Modern presets in Orange/Red channel of a MB Dual Rectifier, you'd understand the "vintage" meaning in these situations, the "Vintage" High Gain...
And, how Revson recommends, if it is cheap, you can buy and sell it if you didn't like the sound...
