Hey guys,

this is my first post in this forum.

I recorded a short track with my new engl e530 preamp.
Chain: Guitar (Ibanez RGR08 with Blackout) --> Engl Preamp --> Reaper
Bass guitar is a pitch shifted Guitar :(
Drums are Ez Drummer with Samples (Joey's Snare)

So, don't be tooo harsh with me =)
What could i change to get a better tone?!

The guitars sound pretty nice man! I'd turn the bass up a bit, it doesn't have enough balls, but that might just be my ears haha

thanks very much!!!

@ muckypup1, i re-recorded the track.
so i used less gain for the guitars but the bass is a little bit louder now.
maybe too loud ^^
but i should definetly buy a real bass.
i hate pitch shifted guitars :bah:

i think this mix is a little bit better than the first one i posted.
it has more bawlz...yeah!

There were some very good 4x12 cab impulses posted here just last week. You might want to DL them, as they were really good.

@ Robert W, which impulses do you mean?!

For my track i used Guitarhacks "Final" Impulse.
I quad tracked the guitars.
I think it's a very useable impulse and it has a nice "character" ;)

nice work man, Engl keeps surprising me. Tt seems their little competition against the recto preamp is definitely game ..but it's like 3x the price!

I think your tone is great, only thing missing is a real bass imo. Care to share settings?

yeah...i really need a real bass.
theres such a huge difference between a pitch shifted guitar and a real bass.
your mixes will get way better if you use a real bass...
oh my god i neeed a real bass

Here are my settings:

Lead Channel

Lead Gain: 5
Bass: 9
LoMid: 7
HiMid: 7
Treble: 6
Contour: on
Lead Volume: max.
Gain: Hi Gain

Yeah i know...
But now i have a "basis" tone, and from there i can tweak and work on my tone.
You know what i mean ^^?!
Sure, this isnt't a final mixdown, but it's a reasonable tone.

greets.

Get a real bass, and you might be better off with Superior 2 than EZ drummer in the long run.

Cymbals sound really artificial (the crash at the left's timing and velocity). Kick sounds cool though, so do guitars, just try to blend the low-end with the bass as much as possible, what I sometimes even do is low pass the master to 500hz, solo guitars and bass and tweak the guitars and bass' low-end until they merge well.

edit : didn't hear final one when I wrote that, the crash is better than it was, I'd like it if you cut a small hole in the guitars with a spectrum analyser where the high end of the kick is, just to let it breathe more in the mix, but really cool mix and great tone
