Engl E530?

Anybody ever tried one? If so, what are your thoughts? I was planning on getting one, but I haven't heard anything about their capabilities as far as metal is concerned.
I used to own one that I tried in my M/B 2:90. It was pretty decent but if you already own a triaxis, you don't get really impressed... :yell:

The Engl Fireball is the most vicious amp that I've ever heard. Without a doubt.

And they do have better, well not better but more diverse amps. But I am sure Fireball can satisfy any higain maniac.

I recently got a Savage, and am loving it. Trying to get Nordstrom-ish tones using my 5150, the Savage, and my Laney. ENGl makes such great stuff, so I'm really tempted to get a Fireball. Whats the difference in the sounds of the Fireball and the Savage?

I never tried a Savage so I really can't compare the two heads, but I believe the Fireball has more gain and a more scooped sound than the savage...it's voiced like the Powerball with a bit less of bottom end

Would it sound acceptable for metal? I've only heard one shitty metal clip, every other clip of it I've heard is clean/blues stuff.
I think it is most suitable for metal! It's a great preamp for the price so if you can't afford a triaxis, you can get pretty far with this...

Our newest offering was recorded with the Engl E-580 preamp (samples coming up, er, sometime) and I'm saving up for an Engl Powerball. Engl makes the best amps out there for the money. At least if you're european that is.

I still don't get why one needs THREE different hi-gain amps. :Spin:

I can understand for reasons of 'variety'. But to 'mix' all three to get a certain sound? :erk:

About two months ago, I'd have agreed with you. For many cases, three amps is definitely overkill. But since I got the Savage, I've found that I get a great tone when I do some creative combining. I like to dial up a lower gain, more "old school" Marshall-ish sound on my Laney and record two takes with it, panning them to about 70-80 on each side, and lowering their level slightly, then I play a higher gain tone take on the Savage and pan it hard left or right, and do the same with the 5150 on the other side. This doesn't work well for some stuff, but the tone I get is monstrously thick. Of course, sometimes I just play two takes of a riff, then reamp each one twice; once through the Laney(or a Marshall Artist combo), then a second time in one of the higher gain amps(the Savage and/or the 5150). By doing this layering, I've managed to create a pretty beastly tone, with a lot more note definition than I used to get.
