ENGL Fireball w/GUITARHACKS IMPULSE(S)!!

sounds fuckin great. could you explain a bit how you've done it? did you run the sound through the amp and took the signal off the fx loop into an interface? what are you're settings for the amp's parameters? the guitars are doubled I assume, any post modifying stuff done to the guitars?
again :notworthy

thanks dudes!

Gav, you won't regret it bro! Now I need an actual V30 cab, I looove the sound so much more compared to the GT-75s.

Umm... as for guitar, they're quad tracked all with the same settings on the amp and the same impulse (BBAE-Half i think it was).

Post-stuff was only Sonalksis for filtering, URS A10 and BBE with controls at 0 (i believe it adds harmonics, can't hurt I guess, haha).

The fireball has this little fluke, or at least mine does, to where a little tiny bit of sounds comes through the cab, even when it's in bypass. So all I do is turn the amp on as if I was going to warm the tubes, plug in a cable from the fx-send jack into a DI and from their straight into my DAW.

i actually put the impulse on the input channel and monitor as well as record through it so there's no going back, haha. works for me.

and gav, intro was a bunch of different plug-ins processed offline to the intro guitars.. i used this plug-in called old gloria i know, which actually fucked up the end of the left guitar, with this hugge glitchy digital sound. i thought it was cool so i further mangled it and made it work.

sounds cool....can't wait to hear the 2nd chord :D

lol. i had a different riff with some open chords and some kind of dissonant stuff, but i ended up hating it and deleting. i may add more to this though.

definitely not the last you'll hear of me using these impulses.. i'm trying them with a re-amp right now, compared to my mic'ed 1960a.

nice sound!
can u post fireball settings plz....(must have used very low gain, or? like 8:30 o clock?)
+do u have to put the signal through a DI before going into DAW? i didnt use one, and sounds great...
my firepod is coming next week, do i need a DI box then to record like this? and if so, active or passive (gimme some suggestions...)
+how did u get ur mix so loud?
hears my clip. can u give me some tipps for better sound? and how can i make the snare more present?
www.dargolf.de/fel/yessir2.mp3

thx, cheers m8!!

Ah dude, that sounds soooooo good. CJ you're the man. You're making me miss my Fireball!!

Question, have you ever used it in a band environment? Did you find that it cuts through?

Also, I might have asked this before, but which guitar and pickup do you use?

i've never had a problem with the FB cutting through in a band practice environment. this is probably even more true with V30s.

i'm still using my ancient schecter w/the stock passive duncan knock-offs :)

and the DI's are built-in to the first two one or two inputs of almost every interface now-a-days, that's all I used. nothing special.

settings on the FB were right on;
8:30 for gain
bass: 12
mids: 2
treble: 1
presence: 2

the raw sound is actually rather bright, but filtering takes care of this nicely.

as for mine being so loiud, i've finally gotten to the stage where I've found the right combo of plugs to make me decently happy w/ my levels. namely:

HQ EQ, multi-band, clipper, limiter, dither.

done.

the rest is up to the mix really and not having huge amounts of low-end energy eating up my headroom.

sounds like you need to treat the other istruments to get the snare to sit right. i'm hearing too much buss-compression and low-end. it's generally kind of smeary. trying HPF stuff that doesn't need all that low end information and just generally getting the kick/bass to play together nicely.

easier said than done I suppose :)

fuck......this is the sound end of story :) would like to hear a complete song with this setup cj!

i love the program and the built-in compressor, EQ and saturation stuff sounds awesome. loads of different sounds to be had..

It's another Swedish drum sampler/player with fx. They're competing with EZD but they have a different approach with the micing technique. The default settings are REALLY processed, but sounds decent straight out of the box. Great for triggering purposes when you want to make your poop drums sound live and natural.

funny though that we (clawfinger) recorded our first three albums in the studio they sampled the drums ;)

Ah, very awesome man. Wasn't there a tutorial thread around explaining impulse responses a while ago? I can't find it. Or was it about reamping??

Because I'm using Logic, so I guess I would use Space Designer. (convolution plugin). But I'm still not quite grasping the theory of IRs.
