Enslaved - Monumension

Yeah so I've been pretty addicted to this album lately. I'm not sure if I like it more than Below the Lights BUT, once again, this is the perfect example of progressive metal that I absolutely adore. It retains all the metal roots while branching out (I'm big on trees today I guess) into all sorts of directions, but not getting trendy or stupid. Add that along with the awesome viking chant thingy at the end, AND a massive BLACK METAL STONER section at the end of Vision: Sphere of the Elements - A Monument Part II, and that's just a big winner package.

Yeah, Monumension just gets better with each listen. Dark, astral infused prog viking good shit.

Yeah, and it has this haunted-by-dead-pirates vibe that I don't think I've heard anywhere other than maybe the first Maudlin of the Well album.

Just listening to Ruun for the first time as I type - seems to be a bit more rock 'n' roll in the riffage, just going by the opening moments of 'Entroper' - liking it so far, though.

Ruun is like what happens when ISA is rewritten for good songs instead of being Isis-clones.

If you're impressed with Ruun, I'd suggest going after their initial prog-metal trilogy (Mardraum through BTL) next...the order isn't that important, though Monumension took more listens than any other Enslaved for me...
