Alright bitches, let's talk about Enslaved

Below the Lights will go down as a near perfect example of what dudes like me want out of nowadays metal. It's new-metal without the crooked baseball hats and faggory.

Come to think of it, "Vetrarnótt" might be my second favorite song. And I love the opening track on Mardraum. It seems that their earlier albums have a great song on it, and the rest sort of bores me.

It's Henrik Main's "Name Your Favourite Song From Every Enslaved Release" game:

Yggdrasill - Niunda Heim
Hordanes Land - Slaget I Skogen Bortenfor
Vikingligr Veldi - Probably Midgars Eldar, extremely hard choice
Frost - Fenris
Eld - Eld
Blodhemn - Urtical Gods
Mardraum - Større Enn Tid, Tyngre Enn Natt
Monumension - Enemy I
Below The Lights - Havenless
Isa - Neogenesis
RUUN - Entroper (although I admittedly haven't listened to it enough)

Ok yeah, the album rules, but BULLSHIT.

Does that mean you disagree with me?

What I mean is it has one foot in the past but the other forging valiantly ahead, or something.

good game

yggdrasill - heimdallr
hordanes land - slaget i skogen bortenfor
vikingligr veldi - lifandi lif undir hamri, but yes, tough as shit
frost - svarte vidder
eld - 793 (slaget om lindisfarne)
blodhemn - i lenker till ragnarøk
mardraum - større enn tid, tyngre enn natt
monumension - convoys to nothingness
below the lights - as fire swept clean the earth

are we seeing a pattern in the last 5 of these yet

Yeah, Enslaved have always had KILLER songs as track no. 1.

More people should play this game btw

BLODHEMN is a pretty underrated Enslaved release imo, almost all the songs are FULL SPEED AHEAD METAL RIFFING ATTACK. Excellent shit.

i like enslaved

seriously, when someone calls someone else an "oompa", what the fuck are they insinuating? :dopey:

Erik was the first official RC member with his own following of Oompa Loompas. Their status as Oompa Loompas was attained through their strict adherence to Erikian philosophies.

bump for Nate thinking I don't like Ruunnnnn for it not sounding like Hordanes Land. :loco:

I'll bump you in the ass with my steel toed boot for not liking Eld. Eld is a CLASSIC. Terrorizer says so.

RUUN is good. It shows some Isis influence, I think. If you don't believe that Enslaved could be influenced by Isis, you missed the show that Enslaved, Isis, and Sunn 0))) put on . . . followed by Enslaved interviewing the other bands. You should read the transcription of the interview, its pretty cool.

I don't hear any Isis, although I do recognize that they're trying to force/merge in some other style and the whole thing is just sounding too Opeth'ish to me.

I listened to RUUN again tonight. There is no doubt these guys are talented musicians but it just seems like they've run out of inspiration / ideas. It's difficult to explain, but even more so than Isa, the whole thing sounds so scripted, or rather, contrived.

The bottom line is, the album is simply boring. It's like they've fallen into no mans land, a mix between Borknagar and perhaps (dare I say it) new Opeth. The title track itself, "Ruun", could have been swept up from the Ghost Reveries cutting floor.

For those reasons, I have no doubt BW&BK (and Nate the Gayt) etc will go nuts again for this release. I just wish it was more 'scathing' and spontaneous. Or maybe I'm just more in the mood for new Satyricon or Vreid.

P.S. Monumension is getting better with each listen, I knew it would.
