So, although we all know that Sir Andy get his incredible tones with minimal processing, it obviously is not an evil thing to do to use some EQ. I would like to buy some kind of analog EQ or preamp with an EQ stage that would be a good option for such a task, preferably something parametric that kind of has it's own cool, smooth character about it. Also, hopefully in the $500 range or so...but that's flexible. Any suggestions?

This looks cool, I have a feeling it will get quite expensive though:

Do you have a 500 series rack (API pre's etc. etc. etc.) ? if you do you should check out the new Purple Audio stuff. They have a new EQ that's about 675....and if it's anything like their pre, It'll no doubt sound amazing.

Check out the Chameleon Labs 7602. You can find a used one w/ PS for $600.

+1 on the Purple stuff... I haven't heard any of their new products yet, but the Biz fuckin' rules.

Just bought a used 7602. My next project begins the first week of November, so that's when I'll be able to show off the results!
