Hello all.
First of all I want to CONGRATS you all for that awesome thread, I´n two days i have learnt more that 2 years. Thanks.
I recently started to record my Amp ( is the first time that I try to), my gear is: 1 an ENGL screamer combo 50 watt
2 M-AUDIO 1814
3 Shure 57
4 Pro Tools on a MAC.

Please can any body tell me a good EQ for that amp, sorry if I sound so rooky but is the first time i try and the sound I am getting is crap. This amp has a lead, trebble, mids, bass, lead presence, lead volumen and master. If has seen that you talk about pre gain, is that equal to lead in my amp? and post gain, is that equal to lead presence or lead volume??

My actual EQ is: lead 4, bass 8, tre 4, mid 4, lead presence 7 and lead volume 4, the master is about 4, the mic is a little of axis and I´m doing double tracking. I´m searching for crunchy heavy rhythm tone.

Thanks again.

Try:
Lead: 7
Bass: 5
Middle: 7
Trebble: 5/6

From the manual (it's ever a good thing...read the manual):

LEAD: Gain control pot for the Soft Lead channel and the Heavy Lead channel. It controls the amount
of preamp overdrive in the Lead mode. (Soft Lead: set the Gain-button 11 to the Lo position, Heavy
Lead: set the Gain-button to the Hi position).

LEAD VOLUME: Volume control for the Lead channel (pre-FX loop, influences the Send level). Use
this knob to dial in the desired balance of levels between the Lead and Clean channels.

LEAD PRESENCE: it's the presence.

we have used an engl screamer head on the song 'dog's friday night'
U can listen to it on www.myspace.com/stickitout
maybe it's too much rock'n'roll...:D
however I find this head very easy to tweak, 'cause it has its own sound and the equalization does not affect it too much.
Try postin' some clips

Hello there,
I forgot to say that is the 50watt combo.

I have posted that 2 clips in rate ma tone thread, as I have said I need help to get a good crunch tone. Maybe any help in compression or EQ will add somenthing...

1 EQ= LEAD 6, BASS 8, TRE 4, MID 4, LEAD PRESENCE 4

Thanks.
Any help will be great.

PD: Untruth, I really liked the song... very rock

Sounds like a great little amp there! I'd say that you might just need to work on your EQ for yourself (lots of help haha). The best thing you can do IMO is to listen closely to recorded tones that you like, then try recording your own tone and see what's missing or in excess.
When you play through the amp, again listen to what is needed or missing. Have you dialed in too many lows, is the sound boxy/ boomy? Are the mids overbearing? Is it too shrill/ toppy?
When you turn the knobs think about these things in relation to where the knobs are:
-what part of the EQ effects the clarity
-what part of the EQ effects the punchiness
-how far can you turn each knob before you hear a subtle difference, at which point does the difference become very obvious? (this might seem very simple, but getting to know your EQ is a big help)
-what amount of gain gives you enough distortion while retaining clarity
-when changing one knob, how does it effect the aspects of the sound you might have thought were only effected by another knob? (ie: how far do the freq's of each knob overlap)

I hope I've made all this clear enough. I've gone through some big improvements in tone in the last few years, and a big part of it was learnin what I didn't like in my tone as much as what I do like.

Good luck dude!
