Eric Johnson???

Yeah, cool guy. 'Manhattan' is a very cool song, and the 'Live at Austin Texas' DVD is definitely worth checking out.

I have only heard some songs from EJ, but they all have been brilliant. And his singing as well is very good. Usually I can't take this sort of singing seriously ie. Steve Vai and Satriani I don't really like their stuff with vocals.

And yeah, I will probably be getting that DVD. Also I have read that he has a new album and DVD coming out too :kickass:

He can technically "sing" but he pretty much sounds like a homo. His musicianship and instrumentation is what makes him worth listening to.

youre half right. he cant really SING very well...but i think when he does, hes interesting and competent enough to give the song that additional dynamic and melody. it fits the music, and never detracts because he often writes "songs"...unlike satch and vai a lot of times. he pulls it off.

I've grown used to his singing and sometimes find it okay, but if I were to show someone one of his songs and they were like "i like the guitar, but his singing is pretty lame" i couldn't really disagree with them completely.

I loved Eric Johnson on CD for a long time...

I've seen Vai, Satch, Yngwie, and EJ and lemme tell you, although it may be shocking, EJ was by far the worst concert experience ive had out of those choices...

now many of you may be saying... "wow, you are retarded"... and if I wasnt at the show i saw,,, i would agree with you...

but nevertheless his songs were thoroughly dull and lifeless live and his soloing (believe it or not) was terrible... it was the biggest wank fest i had ever heard. He was basicallly screaming "Look at how many sweep arpeggios I can do!" - and on top of that... they werent even clean!!!! At least when yngwie spews neo-classical wankage he hits the notes right...

Im not trying to hate on the guy. I own some CD's and DVD's and i will always pay attention to new material from EJ...but from my experience Steve Vai absolutely ECLIPSES all other acts in the same vein and EJ limps in near the bottom...

I disagree in that it is your opinion and I have heard albums from these artists and imo EJ has the most sense of songwriting in general, has better vocal work and is more tasteful. I think his solos are well done overall and are not wankfests, but are very tasteful and refreshing. I would classify Steve Vai and Yngwie as mostly wankery, on the other hand. And I have heard Vai and Yngwie and Satriani's new albums, all I can say is "nothing really groundbreaking".
