Essentials for someone new to metal

I don't know why Melodic Death metal bandds have been generally left out of these lists.

MDM Bands:

In Flames - Colony, The Jester Race
Amorphis (later)
Insomnium - Above the Weeping World
Illdisposed - 1-800Vindication

Dark Tranquility - Some DT fan needs to recommend a specific album.
Satariel - Hydra
Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
Mors Principium Est - Liberation = Termination
Disarmonia Mundi - Mind tricks
Into Eternity - The Scattering of Ashes
Naildown

Edit:

Death metal:

Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal, Honour/Valour/Pride
Trauma - DetermiNation
Gorod - Process of a New Decline
Death - Symbolic, Leprosy
Yattering - Genocide
Necrophagist - Epitaph
Malevolent Creation - The Will to Kill

The Crown - Crowned in Terror, Deathrace King

All I have time to post at the moment.

Every single cd listed? Whaddafuk?

i scanned through. if i dont have some, it would be like one or two. or that i bought it and sold it over the years  me and my fiance are cd collectors. we've got tons of them. lol

and about that Jag Panzer, id have to dig through my cds, but i dont think i have any of their bootlegs. so my guess is legit.

haha ok, out of all those cds, i am missing about a dozen. many of which we had at one point  we even have some of these on vinyl. Sarcofago being the really cool find;) we just recently got that.

Black Metal:

Venom - Welcome to Hell
Venom - Black Metal
Venom - At War With Satan

[/I]

You had a pretty good list except for the ones I left in the quote, I mean Venom isn't exactly Black Metal, perhaps it could be worth to note the history of Venom and their "contributions" to the genre.

no dark tranquillity is particularly good so how about we bypass that band completely.

DODENS WHERE ARE YOU

venom rules though who cares what they are

good list of some of the better known essentials as you say, but autopsy are a glaring omission. there's half a dozen swedish DM releases i'd probably add, and i'd add 'infernal overkill' to the thrash. also wtf, no immortal in the black metal?!

Wow. I have no idea how I forgot Autopsy and Immortal.

There's probably a ton I'd add to that list but I tried to stick with the bare essentials.

Essential to me.

Edge of Sanity `crimson 1 & 2,purgatory afterglow.
Amorphis `tales from from the thousand lakes, elegy, the karelian isthmus, last 3.
Anathema `pentecost III.
Pan-Thy-Monium `dawn of dreams,khaooohs & kon-fus-ion.
Fear Factory `demanufacture.
Danzig `danzig.
Celtic Frost `to mega therion.
Entombed `left hand path.
Solitude Aeturnus `beyond the crimson horizon.
Pentagram `s/t.
Godflesh `streetcleaner.
Acid Bath `... BOTH
Type O Negative `bloody kisses,october rust.
Candlemass `epicus doomicus metallicus.
Agalloch `the mantle, ashes against the grain.
Paradise Lost `draconian times.
Katatonia `brave murder day,discouraged ones.
Novembers Doom `of sculptured ivy and stone flowers, a classic original groundbreaking doom metal album that does not get enough credit.

Well it depends on the genre...

If you are into heavy metal, start wit Maiden and Priest,
Thrash, start with Slayer, Metallica, Venom, Celtic Frost, blah
Doom, start wit Sabbath,
you know?

van halen, ozzy, manowar, judas priest, dio, diamond head, accept, sabaton, helloween etc start with the famous names that you've heard and work your way down the ladder, thats what i did at least.
