Eve of Seduction, what a horrible song - Analysis

I see Prismics thing now, hes into power metally stuff.

If this is directed at me, you couldn't be more off. First off, I tend to like the more power metally songs like "Evolution" and "Set The World On Fire" quite a bit less than I like their other material. Some have labeled them as a progressive/power metal band with neoclassical tendencies in the past; and that's fine; so long as the power doesn't precede the progressive. Ideally, would I like Symphony X to be a PROGRESSIVE hard rock/metal band with neoclassical tendencies without the power metal? Yes I would. But I think the main thing that I like about SX, is that you can't quite pigeonhole them. I'd love for them to do a progressive hard rock album; because they could- and exceed all others in that department.

(Note: If you look at my list of Top 10 SX songs(the CURRENT LIST) in the Top 10 SX Song Thread, you'd wholly retract your comment directed at me)

And whoever said "Absence Of Light" isn't a good song; well, that ending gives me goosebumps everytime. Fucking FRIGHTENING!

well you said you liked the melodic chorus and not Serpents Kiss and thats enough for me to make the comment. Serpents Kiss is a progressive metal song without massive instrumental sections. Hardrock died in the 70's, hardrock is not SX's style and would bring the tears of reported SX critics to epic flood level. Neoclassic touches to hardrock, now thats funny.

Opening does sound like Dragonforce yeh, but at least they don't launch into a double bass drum + power chord thing right after, give it more credit than that.

But I agree, it sounds difficult to play and all, but I just don't enjoy it, like most of the album.

Edit: Solo is fucking tasty, though. ^^

I can understand that this song might not be everyone's cup of tea but I don't get where the criticism for the writing of it comes from. Yeah it's a bi more basic for Symphony X but I think it's one of the bestwritten on the album, I think it pretty well flows perfectly from beginning to end, all the parts lead into each other smoothly and there isn't any part of the song that sticks out like a sore thumb. Eve of Seduction is quiet easily one of the best songs on the album for me, it fucking rocks.

The only funny thing here is your repetitive use of putting words in my mouth and claiming you know what I'm about. It's really funny actually. And I said that I would like them to do an album; which they could do. Heck, SX could do anything(and you should know that). And their insistence at making every album sound heavier than the last has detracted away from the real golden elements of their sound and kinda ruins the surprise too.

As for Seduction vs. Serpent, you (should) know my stance on the whole PL album by now. Seduction is a better song, period. It has way more melody. Serpent may be more progressive in structure; but is quite amelodic(it's the worst song on the album and is the wrong direction for SX). And besides, SX can do instrumental sections with the best of them when they want to(I'd say the best). But again, if you look at what SX songs I like best, you will see a winning combination of songs that are very progressive and super melodic.

The middle section and the solo in Seduction destroy Serpent all by itself.

You really never had a clue.

Now whats funny is where did I put words in your mouth, damn you have some strange reactions.

Serpents Kiss does not require any more melody than it has, its an in your face metal song. Were the band to write every song according to your spec they would get dull quick plus take a slaggin for that.

I dont get the every album heavier bit, seems to me for quite awhile there Damnation was about the heaviest.

Frankly I think most "fans" of bands suck, never happy

OK boys, just throw a new album cover on "V" and call it a day.........

Everything you just said above is just plain wrong and I'm beside myself by trying to clarify it anymore than I already have.

What I will say is that Inferno and Wicked were both "in-your-face metal songs"; but they were infinitely more melodic and are thus, better songs.
Same with Dressed To Kill and In The Dragon's Den.

Hell, even King Of Terrors is better than Serpent's Kiss.

Serpent's Kiss is riddled with odd time signatures. Certainly heavy but also quite progressive. That's the beauty of Symphony X's music... it has so many odd time signatures but the songs are written so good that you don't even realize them.

My take on the song is that some of my friends who are not really into Symphony X actually enjoy Eve of Seduction. It's probably the lyrics and having to do with wanting to get with a girl just for lust. Maybe it's the really catchy main riff? I like the solo too.

It's usually out of the ashes and eve of seduction that get the attention of people who don't listen to Symphony X that much, at least with my own friends and experiences.

Prismatic... I think it's time for you to stick your foot in your mouth... for real. It's gettin' annoying. You do this all the time.

To me, Paradise Lost was a complete failure. It's commercial, typical, and boring. Michael's solos are uninspired and feel like unfinished rip offs of his other works. Russels voice is terrible and unmoving.

Listen to Russel's voice on the new avantasia albums, its amazing, angelic. It's probably the first time I've ever heard his true voice (old symX high vocals) with good production in my life. Brings me to tears.

whats with all the newly registered people slaggin SX ? Thats either 3 or 4 in two days

Im suspicious here

its like high school all over again! I Love and hate Paradise Lost. One of their best and one of their worst. But I've shared my opinions many times, this song in particular is alright. But very repetative. Than again, the album its on is called "Paradise On Repeat"! Some of you prog snobs go into way to much detail for nothing, so you don't like the song, who gives a flying fuck, does it really warrant a thread of its own just to justify why you hate this shitty song? no not really. Than again, when updates, announcements, and happenings in the symphony x world are spread so far apart I don't blame you.

When you say KoT is better than Serpent's Kiss, I feel like you are taken a stab at KoT... KoT is a Symphony X staple song, and very well done. Serpent's Kiss for that matter is as well. Its one of their grooviest jump up and down live songs they have ever done. Without being overly Power metal sounding like Eve of Seduction or set the world on fire. BUT....To each their own.

Simply put 99.9% of the people on these forums need to get their heads out of their asses, and stop acting like fucking private school bitches. Go get laid, or workout at the gym instead of tearing some internet noob a new one!

I think the OP is just a whiner. Don't like it? Your loss. Go listen to something else.

Sup Jeff? I agree entirely.

If Eve of Seduction sounds too "power metal" for you, then you haven't listened to a lot of power metal. This song is much more distinctly applicable to Symphony X than OP is claiming. I've listened to an insanely large selection of power metal and even power metal subgenres. There's a ton of excellent power metal, so if this song sounded like most power metal it wouldn't be a bad thing. However, it's just not significantly "power metal" at all.

Also, OP can fuck off 'cause it's an awesome song, much like the rest of their discography in its entirety.
