At the end of its life, a star will either make a big explosion (nova) or a gigantic ass explosion (supernova). After the explosion, a nova will collapse into a neutron star or a white dwarf which is a very very dense small dead star. If it's a supernova, it collapses into a black whole. It's just a matter of how big the star was when it existed. Our sun, for example, is tiny.. when its life ends it'll make a relatively small explosion and collapse into a white dwarf.

I find black holes pretty interesting. I'm taking a class in relativistic gravity next quarter and we'll talk about them..the class may be a mistake cause the prof teaching it is hard...and the class is hard, but oh well. There's all sorts of crazy shit that goes on with black holes and there's all sorts of stuff we don't know. Like are they finite or are they a singularity, we just can't tell because all information gets sucked into them. They do however radiate (hawking radiation), which is an effect of the quantum foam being ripped apart at the event horizon. Another weird thing I heard is if you're standing close enough to a black hole that's rotating, it will actually rotate your reference frame, so it'll look like you're spinning around....while standing still.....crazy shit....
