Sheffield, United Kingdom.
This explains itself really. I was talking about this the other day with some friends so i thought I'd make a thread!

One of the worst offenders here is Downlord's "Random Dictionary of the Damned". Brilliant album ruined by the label heads being a sack of dicks.

I want to say Master of Puppets. But I proper can't be arsed dealing with the backlash/explaining myself :p

That, and though I honestly think its production lets it down. It doesn't 'ruin' it - because it's still an excellent album. Regardless of how much I need to turn the volume up to enjoy it!

EDIT - I may provide a sensible response to the topic at some point.

Testament's Practice What You Preach album springs to mind instantly.

Wow.. I thought of exactly the same thing. Though I wouldn't call it excellent.

I'm going to be bold an say Pleasure to Kill. Could have liked it much more if the it wasn't shitting in my hears every time someone so much as touches an instrument. Some may like the 'muddy' style of production but I got to be honest and say thank god we're past that...

Agree. I never listen to Pleasure to Kill because the production is so bad.

I really like the songs on Practice What You Preach. Unfortunately I never feel to compelled to put it on because it is sonically displeasing.

Slayer - Divine Intervention

definitly could have done better.

Testament - The Legacy

I like the 2001 re-recordings of that album alot more!

Kreator - Renewal
listen to Winter Martyrium..just terrible, though it could have been a good song

Solstice - Pray

excellent album but definitly suffers from bad production. If Colin Richardson would have produced it, it would also have the sound that it deserves I think.

First name that sprung to mind: ANACRUSIS.

Not that the albums are ruined per se, as they are great albums but the listener must overcome the SHITTY production. I actually prefer the newer editions available at their website for free.

And I of course exclude Screams and Whispers from the "shitty production" list. And to an extent Manic Impressions.

It took me a while to get used to it to be honest and it never stopped bothering me, esp. since I thought the music was great. I wonder how bigger they would be if they had the production values of say Coroner or Mekong Delta (on Dances of Death, which I find is the opposite of dry). Difficult band to get into (esp. at the time) but very rewarding, it's a real shame the production meant a lot of people didn't give them the proper listening time they deserve.

Also, to a degree, I must mention Enter the Grave here. It's not a shitty production job, far from it, but it's too goddamn clean! It's got no grit to it, too slick for my liking these days.
