Hey guys, recently I came into a good bit of money. Lately I've been extremely interested in the home recording scene, so I'm planning on changing my room into a full studio.

I don't know if this is a great amount of money but I know it's probably enough to get started. I have about a little over $3,300 to spend. about $800-$1000 will be going to buying a capable computer for optimum recording potential.

So, I'm starting from scratch. What do you guys recommend I pop my home-recording-cherry on?

Also, I don't think I'll need any mics because I'm expecting to do all of my drums through DFH and guitars through my recently acquired Axe-FX.

1000 on a comp
600 on monitors
300 on an interface
400 on room treatment

That leaves 1000 for fun stuff assuming you already have all the software you need.

Don't know what kind of music you're planning on doing but I assume you'll want to record vocals decently. Then I'd spend 400 on an SM7 and 600 on a decent preamp.

I'm trying to do a mix of stuff, some pretty heavy crap, I guess on the likes of djent? But I don't like djent too much... But I guess I'm searching for the same tone.

Actually I'd probably look to try to make stuff like Devin Townsend's Addicted, but I'm not quite sure if my budget could cover that. What does everyone think?

Yeah, I'm definitely getting the SM7, it seems to be getting good reviews on music sites.I just want to be able to make some quality recordings, though that might just be wishful thinking.
